Well, you actually carried through. I have to give you that. So at least in the Detroit area, you found that 65% of leagues are mixed leagues.
This certainly validates my statement that "Most adult leagues are mixed handicap".
One reason I had no doubt is the distribution of averages in league bowling. The median average for men is around 165. For women, it is about 140. These are recent statistics published by John Jowdy:
http://www.bowlingdigital.com/bowl/node/7204I know similar numbers had been published by the USBC, but their website is so messed up it's hard to find anything with new format. Anyway, there has to be a majority of mixed handicap to cater to this segment.
I'm surprised that Detroit only has one scratch league. Detroit has a reputation for being the hotbed of bowling, but I guess that doesn't translate to competitive scratch. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised. A new guy who just relocated from Atlanta is subbing in our scratch league, and he says there aren't any scratch leagues there at all. It's hard to imagine that such large population areas are almost all handicap only.
