one of those NO CARRY nights ?!?!?
« on: January 14, 2005, 12:24:38 AM »
Hey all.....

What is it with these nights that are so mind-boggling!!! I mean....threw the ball pretty damn good last night....but NOTHING was carrying.....9/ after 9/.....even a pocket 7-10...and I MEAN A SOLID pocket 7-10....must have had a pin offset because BOTH teams couldn't believe it....but anyhow......

along with a few mis cues here and there....and I never got to duece last night...
after almost hitting 7 last week.....those are very frustrating nights....but I guess you have to focus on what you did GOOD and keep trudging along,...eh?

Thoughts.......ever had one of these nights....where you throw the ball pretty well and just have NOTHING to show for it ?!?!?

I might suggest that you make it a habit and study every balls path through the pins (pocket). You can clearly identify why your carry is the way it is when you have this habit. Once you master/understand this, then making changes to enhance carry becomes easy and simply not a guess.

pin-chaser,

good idea....not quite there yet....I still have to concentrate on my mechanics and getting a nice relaxed arm motion and clean release...hitting my mark, etc,etc.....

watching the ball thru the pins is next I guess  I do do that sometimes though and I do watch my ball all the way thru, but didnt' see anything strange last night.....something I'd love to be able to do without issue every time....

thanks....

Stormlefty...nice to see you CHIME in again !
Yup....I feel it buddy...I feel it!

I feel your pain Jeff, 190-180-190 last night.  Best look I had all night was with my Blue Dot!  It was a VERY frustrating night to say the least.  Just couldn't carry, 7 10s, 2 9s, 2 8s, various other single pin spares.  3 opens, 560.  Rough night.

no...the shot was there...I was making it to the pocket...that's why I changed balls....get a bit of a different entry angle.....

Jeff, been there done that..

Last night I start off with a 234 with all 12 balls in the hole, clean game.. Then shoot a 201, another clean game but the lanes are starting to fly and I SHOULD, I say should have switched to a less aggressive ball, but didn't and paid the price with a whopping 144 the last game..

I am having a really hard time with when to switch balls and that used to never be an issue with me..

If they only made a ball that would carry that da_n 7 pin (and I am right handed!!)

I can feel your pain. Two weeks ago I started out using my Freak and shot 258 and then 214 after opening in the 9th and 10th in the second game after two stone 10 pins. Realizing the lanes were drying up pretty fast, I decided to change balls the last game and I pulled out my Storm Flame Reactive (Bubble Gum) ball. I started throwing the ball straight down the second arrow and the ball was ripping the rack. I started with strikes through the 9th frame and as I was getting ready for the 10th frame I wondered if I had enough luck in me to carry three more shots. As luck would have it, my first shot in the 10th frame was flush pocket and I left the 5-8-10. I picked the spare and struck in the 12th. Couldn't convert two 10 pins but I could pick up the 5-8-10. What a night.

Bowled in a 5 game across 10 lane tournament last year-- 21 ten pins in 5 games, along with 2 pocket 7-10s, and my all time favorite-- a pocket SIX-seven...

It was just one of those weeks where every line chanve, ball change, anything, made it worse.

Though some guy jokingly said he'd pray for me in church-- I haven't had a day since, so I guess it's getting better!

Tuesday night I had the same issue. Hit the pocket, couldn't carry. Shot 193-183 the first two. Left a 10 pin and missed it in the first frame. Just for kicks, I remembered what The Curse of Dusty told me once, and moved one board right with my feet. Didn't change anything else (hand position, ball, target, etc) - shot 257 that game.

A couple of years ago, same thing - shot 169 my first game, hitting the pocket EVERY shot.
Moved 2-2 parallel inside, shot 278-287 the next two games.

Sometimes, when we're hitting the pocket, we just don't want to move. Sometimes, that's all we can do.

Personally, I get more satisfaction out of knowing I was throwing the ball pretty darn well than just scoring decently. But I'll take the scores anyday. But it occurs to me that when I'm throwing the ball particularly well, nothings carryin. But when I'm really off, I can hit the 3 pin and strike. In league one time, I pulled my shot way much and it was going for the 4 and 7 and I turned away and to my surprise they went down like dominoes. (Worst shot but best carry). Funny stuff, this bowling.

Yeah, like last night

We bowled the team who has a woman with a 140 average who brings in SIX balls.  Her nickname among the league members is Lawn Sprinkler because she can't hit the same area of the lane in two successive shots.

I felt I threw the ball pretty well, but with all of the hook-stop hook-stop I got, I managed a stellar 155-154-154/463 (consistent, huh?).  The worst part?  I was high on the pair!

I can't wait for next week to erase last night's memories
