Mastermind vs Sync?
« on: November 21, 2013, 08:51:21 PM »
I've got a buddy who has a Nano Pearl right now. I'd say rev dominant. He bowls mostly on our low friction synthetics with heavyish medium oil THS. He throws the Nano pearl and as you would guess, gets a pretty nice skid-flip motion out of it, most of the movement comes on the backend. He wants something to read the mids a little better, have good movement on the back still, but be more overall.

So I've got it narrowed down to the sync or the mastermind. Problem is, I haven't seen a mastermind thrown except in videos...will it fit the bill or be too close in overall strength? I think the sync would be great, but I'm worried about it being a little to even in motion. lmk what you guys think.

Matt

From what I've seen, the Sync is a bit more smooth in motion than the Mastermind, which is probably cleaner through the front and saves everything for the end. Both are good pieces that seem very versatile.

I thought so too, about the smooth motion of the sync, just wonder how they compare in overall strength? Any idea. I've seen several people throw the sync, but no one theastermind...

Funny.  Just saw a Mastermind on the lanes the other day.

Our center this year is Wet in the heads this year in league but quickly gets fairly dry in the heads in most leagues.

The Sync has been a big winner in our house for lefties(dullish) and Righties.  When I see it I think of my Mission X.

I love this ball and I use a trick drilling from the Ebonite drill sheets.  I have a very controllable but angular move off the break with my Super Mission X.

I felt the Mastermind looked similar to my Mission X but maybe a little earlier revving which was not so great on the afternoon shot I saw this high speed high rev righty female throw on.

That same Mission X type angularity on a Brunswick solid.  My opinion ....if you are going to have head and mid oil.....Awesome.  If it is going to go quick....situational as her coach was telling her.

I see it as mostly a one ball game on a heavily oiled league shot for righties unless very highly polished!  Somehow some of our high speed righties are able to make it though 3 games with their highly polished same low rg syncs.

Also, I confess to not seeing the drilling on the Mastermind, if Pin down and I was told it was intended for slick sport shot tournaments it all makes sense.

I see the Mastermind and Mission X as very similar the Sync as slightly smoother.  this Mastermind looks like the slight leader in early rev but again it could be the drilling.

Looks like a great ball, hopefully as versatile on the league au jus as the Mission X and Sync.

Luckylefty
PS if I spot the drilling and it is pin down all will be clear!

I've seen them both in action go with the mastermind but telling you right now you better have some soup watched a guy that has like 300 revs throw one last night on a med house shot and he was lofting the gutter cap by the end of the first game and that ball had no quit in it.  Mastermind is the strongest ball out there right now.

I appreciate the feedback guys. My buddy, although rev dominanat, can turn up the speed with surprising consistency when necessary. I think we'll take a chance on the mastermind.

Just a quick update.  With similar rgs I don't see why the Mastermind looked so much earlier to my eye.

As they say on their own Video.  Brunswick staffer Ryan Mouw says at the 1 minute 12 second mark "If you are speed dominant This is the ball for you."

I don't know why the similar low RG Nexxus looks like it pushes a little better.  I may drill this weekend.

I'll know more after seeing my speed dominant or matched high speed female bowler drilling and surface better.
