Ultimate Inferno vs. Anomaly--Any question?
« on: May 05, 2004, 12:40:03 AM »
I've seen both in action, and the aggressiveness appeared relatively close, although the style of bowler using each was different. Is there any comparison between these two in terms of ability to handle heavy oil? Just looking for thoughts.

Gene,

I have had each, and niether hooked as well for me as they advertised. The Anomaly needed dry backends, but when they were dry it moved and hit extremely well. I have the Ultimate drilled a hair more aggressive, and it does cover a few more boards, but still does not hook for me like others have said it does for them.

If you are going to go with either of these for an oil I would suggest the Anomaly because of the Soaker Coverstock. It is very durable. The coverstock on the Ultimate is your typical Brunswick coverstock that tracks up easy and wears out easy. There have been many people on this site that have seen it soak up oil and even with sanding not get as dull was it was NIB.

goodluck

FYI
That Soaker coverstock appears to need a good 20 games to get a good roll/reaction.

I'm still considering these two for heavy and I can't decide which one to go with. Please give me some help!

Gene, do you like your Thing ?

If so, get the Anomaly, ....similar block w/ an Element flip block.....

The Anomaly is Dyno-thane's heavy oil ball.  It is a solid Soaker coverstock, which is a resin formula without any material additives, i.e. particles.

Out if the box, I found the ball unusable.  It hooked at my feet and simply burned up midlane.  Of course I never really bowl on what I call heavy oil.  I polished my Anomaly lightly at first to clear the heads.  It still managed to lose most of its energy early.  I polished it more and it really performed well for me, with my hand and for the conditions I encounter.

I cannot comment on the Infernos.  However, I have heard folks compare the aggressiveness of the Soaker to the Activator.  Dyno-thane is proud of the durability of the Soaker.  I am not sure about the durability of the Activator since I have never thrown one.

The Anomaly will be a little stronger than your Element, with the same layout.  I would drill the Anomaly for maximum reaction, like a 4x3 layout.  That should get you clean through the heads on heavy oil and begin its move midlane with plenty of flip in the backends... especially if you play down the boards.  Of course you could always get another Element with a different layout and surface.  heh

Hope this helps.

Gene, I have used both.  Neither is really the best ball for heavy oil.  I rate the Anomaly a hair better because, for me, the reaction was a bit more predictable, it went through carrydown slightly better and because the Soaker coverstock right now is the most durable on the market.  I think if you throw the ball a little slower than I do (about 17-18 mph), with a bit more axis rotational angle the Anomaly works better for heavier oil than it does for me.  I still think that particle balls are better for truly heavy oil shots and would use the Vendetta Particle before the Anomaly or a Warp Zone or maybe a WOW.
