Last week I sent Ron C. (username Magic Carpet here on the board) a message on the board's messaging system that I planned to send him a check for ten of his Magic Carpet thumb tape product. I've been working on getting a cleaner thumb release and have been plagued by dry skin and high humidity working against me. I've been either dropping the ball or hanging in the thumbhole almost as often as I've been getting the ball off my thumb properly.

Ron sent me a note back that he would get the Magic Carpets right out and not even wait for my check. I got them and tried them in two leagues this weekend and they are a great product! My thumb release problem has been instantly solved--a good thing, since I have lots of other stuff to work on. I have always had at least four strips of tape in the thumbholes anyway, so I removed three from the back side and put the Magic Carpets in. This turned out to be just right in all cases but one, where I had to take a piece of tape off of the gripping side as well.

I don't know why I waited so long to try this product. If you are having thumb release problems--or even if you aren't--I recommend trying Magic Carpets. I've got them in eight balls now, leaving me with just two in reserve, so I'm ordering ten more immediately so I have a comfortable reserve supply. Check Ron's website at www.bowl4fun.com

I think the Magic Carpets are a godsend. However, I've been to 4 different ball drillers in the past 3 years, and 3 of the 4 tried to discourage me from using them. One of them actually told my son to "get that furry thing out of your thumbhole!" My thumb size changes constantly, and the Magic Carpet is the only device that compresses when my thumb is at its largest, enabling a still-perfect fit. I order so many of them that Ron once asked me if I was eating them!

Your experience with your ball drillers is not unusual. That is one reason I really don't push very hard for pro shops to carry them. The drillers just don't understand them. It is so hard to get a driller to put one in a ball and go throw it you would just not believe it. The most common response is " If I drill your ball you don't need that" Well how many say the same thing about bowler's tape? No many. Most drillers understand the simple function of bowler's tape but not the more complex multifunction of Magic Carpet. Most of the pro shops that carry Magic Carpet have given in to the hoards of their customers coming and and asking for it. The open minded drillers that will actually go throw a ball with a piece in there will then understand why people like it...even if they don't choose to use it themselves.

Anyway, again thanks for endorsements. It's always great to play a small part in people bowling better. That's my biggest most valuable reward.

Ron, I agree with what you just said about Pro Shop operators. Mine is like that too. I even offered him a couple pieces to try and he refused to even consider it.
