Unsanctioned sport designation for league?

I went to Bowl.com to review my average history and found the league I bowl in has been flagged as unsantioned sport league .......WTF?

What effect does this have on my average in tournaments and how does something like this happen?

If this was the only league you bowled then you will probably have to participate as a scratch participant in any handicap league.  It may benefit you to try and get 21 games in a league as a sub or fill an empty spot to generate an average for tournament use.

Also, check to see if you paid sanctioning dues in this league (local, state or national) and be refunded for any moneys you paid.

If it is not the only league, then you will have to pretend this league didn't happen.

Good catch milo.  Getting sport leagues deemed "official" can be difficult.  Supposedly the method has changed or is going to change.  But if the league put out the sport shot and told USBC it was a normal shot, then it won't be an official sport shot.

Unfortunately, this type of league can lead to averages not be representative of the bowlers talent on a normal THS.

Unfortunately, this type of league can lead to averages not be representative of the bowlers talent on a normal THS.

One of the biggest issues with the sanctioning of Sport leagues has been the "Sport Bowling" fee we had to pay to bowl them.

Just like the membership increase of $5, bowlers piss and moan over having to pay a little extra(ONE TIME A YEAR) for the Sport designation. I have bowled in such a league for several years. The league votes against it being an official sport league because they don't want to pay the few dollars for the card.

The extra cost associated with having a league designated as a Sport League went away last year.  Now it is just a checkbox on the league application as to whether or not a league is a Sport league.

It is a sanctioned league.  We bowl on tougher shots but none of them are sport compliant.

I am not 100% certain but I believe they are Kegel challenge patterns.  Season is halved with different pattern each half.  No ratios are flatter than 5:1  .....so how is that a sport league where it must be at least 3:1?

A few teams didn't return last year and I believe someone with a bruised ego filed a complaint with the USBC.  It seems their 220 average wasn't as legit as they thought it was.

Yea, someone probably reported it to USBC.

Doesn't Bowl.com have a third category of averages now? Like Regular, Sport and Challange? I thought I read that somewhere.

I don't think that means anything other than giving tournament directors the ability to re-rate you.  Since there is no average adjustment scale, that is a more difficult and arbitrary task.

Yeah, it sounds as if this is USBC's way of trying to give tournament directors a heads up when encountering individuals who bowl on really tough patterns that aren't officially recognized as Sport.

If the association knows that you are bowling on a non typical house shot (sports pattern/challenge patterns) they are required to turn it in has a NON certified Sports league. Even if the league did not check that boxs.  Then your average on bowl.com will be noted as a sports league average. An will be subject to sport average chart.

I can tell you bowling the Illinois State tournament several years ago and having only a sport average, the tournament officials had no idea how to "adjust" my average.  Had I not held their hand, I could have used the lower average.
