How much a year, do you think you spend on bowling?
« on: April 13, 2004, 04:46:03 PM »
Seriously think about it. How much do you spend, no including equipment, just on renting a lane, or paying for league. Put that then put how much you think you spend, including equipment. (polish, cleaner, balls, bags, shoes, whatever you buy to bowl)

AM not A CHICK OF BOWLING but I wanted to be in Manda's clique And why would I "saw" pins in half, THATS A WASTE OF PINS! I'd rather blow it over with my storm, and 21mph ball speed on dry shots.

last year 20,000 (myself and 2 kids that bowl, 15 new balls between us, traveling expenses to tournaments all over for everyone) I paid for one good bowling center employee's salary, now if I can just get this guy to show up once in a while to help me carry all this crap around.

Leagues and practice for 2003: I would say about $1,500.
Tournaments: Another $600
Equipment: $350 between balls, cleaners, shoes and a new ball bag.

I expect to probably double that expense for 2004, now that I have a daughter bowling in leagues...

ME:416+330+66=812
Wife:330

That doesn't count equipment, tape, food, practice, etc.

2 new balls this year=250
A few used ones=200
2 new balls for the wife=160
new ABS shoes=105
new bag for the wife=100

Total so far: 1957

Tournaments: I will guess at 500 or 600 between the two of us. (she made more back this year than i did)

Grand Total---->2557

Think about the time you spend cleaning your balls...............you could open a lemonade stand and actually make $$ during that time. Also, noone has mentioned the cost of medical treatment and last, but not least (certainly for me), the cost for the psychotherapy (not covered by my employer's plan).....

I just gathered all my info from Money, and I'm horrified!

Here goes:

Tournaments:     391
Open Bowl       1624
Leagues         3473
Lessons           36
Equipment       2751

Total           8275

This is for the period of May 1, 2003 to April 15, 2004, and the totals are for a family of 4 (3 avid bowlers and 1 fun bowler).

Tournament winnings are $300 (scholarship), and league winnings total about $550. Most leagues are adult/junior, so there's no payout.

I'm cutting my summer leagues to only 1 (from 3).  The tournament figure will increase, but I think the equipment figure will drop substantially.  Hopefully, the lessons will increase.

No wonder we're broke!
