USBC CONVENTION NEWS
The annual United States Bowling Congress convention was held last week in Reno .
There were workshops, town hall discussions, meet the candidates session, exhibits and merchandise displays available for the over 1,000 delegates from state and local associations across the country.
Once they were over the annual meeting commenced with delegates being treated to updates on Bowlers to Veterans Link (BVL) memorial presentation Bowl for the Cure International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame various awards presentations and industry reports including reports from USBC President Jeff Boje and USBC Executive Director Stu Upson.
Program changes being made for the 2010-11 season include U.S. Bowler magazine will become an electronic-only publication, the U.S. Women’s Open will be put on hiatus and USBC offer a new credit card partnership with Nationwide that gives card users free USBC national membership and other bowling-related benefits.
After the formalities were over the real work began. The delegates deliberated on seven proposed changes to league rules, seven proposed changes to tournament rules and 10 proposed by law changes.
Among the league rules that were changed are 1) requirement that bank statements be mailed to the league president, 2) treasurer records must be kept for one year from the completion of the season, 3) allowing each frame of a game to be bowled on a different pair of lanes as a league option and 4) removing the 48 hour time frame from a request for a postponement only requiring a request prior to the scheduled time.
Tournament rules adopted were 1) summer league averages will recognized as the equivalent of a winter league average, 2) allowing each frame of a game to be bowled on a different pair of lanes as a tournament option and 3) instituting a 72 hour time limit for tournament protests.
The only bylaw change that passed allows for electronic voting at the USBC Annual Meeting.
All changes are effective August 1, 2010.
Four members of the USBC National Board were elected. They include Carolyn Dorin-Ballard of Keller , Tex. , Michael Italia of Warrington, Penn., Mark Martin of Waterford Twp. and Deanna Rose of Fairport, N.Y.
