league secretary dodged the point
« on: August 21, 2006, 02:09:24 AM »
So me and my my buddy stan were looking into another league to replace our  tuesday night mixed one, a mens league. Harldy any of those up here in Ocala, Fl.

Said I had two people to bring in , and she'd would get back to me. I get a call this morning saying she put me on her husbands team.   I asked her about oil conditions, and what was put down. Explained my league hardly oils and is dry and don't want to pay 14$ a night for it, which i why we want to move.

She went on to explain how her husband is a professional bowler , along with his two buddies on the team. He has his card certifing the 200+ avg and whatnot. She's talking like he's on tour. Well had, he doesn't have it anymore she said.
He sounds like ball return kicker when he misses a spare. Told me about a junior bowler that just came up on the team and is really good.  Still, couldn't get an answer from her. I told her i'd get back to her.

I'd like to bowl in an all mens league again, however,  if the league secretary couldn't answer a lane condition question and didn't understand that I asked for teams with two openings,  then put me on her husbands team without any consent,
At the alley, the lady at the desk said they dropped from 33 to 22 teams since last year.

This all adds up into a not so good situation in my eyes. What do you think?

You asked to be put on a team and she found you one.  Did you expect her to give you a list of every availability and let you pick?  Many times, they don't get a lot of assurances of the teams returning until the last minute.  If they know of an open spot, they try to fill it first.  I'm sure she was trying to tell you that her husband is a good bowler on a house shot and that he doesn't average 120.  I think you're reading way too much into him being a "ball return kicker".  Heck, most owners/managers couldn't tell you much about the oil patterns.  Why would a league secretary be expected to give a lot of details?  Too many straight bowlers will tell you a shot is oily or dry.  How would they know?  If you can't find the guy who lays out the shot, or a good bowler who's opinion you trust, you're going to get a lot of different answers anyway.  She may not be giving you the warm reception you desire, but I think you're being a little paranoid.
