Actually there are many more blind bowlers than you might imagine (and we are not discussing absentee bowler's).

There is an association of blind bowlers in Buffalo, NY (#'s escape me at present), and they have a very large tournament as well. Many carry averages above 150!

While obtaining my first college degree (Recreation Therapy) part of the curriculum was learning to teach bowling, including ALL forms of "handicaps", which included blind and wheelchair bowling.

Wow that is wild, I would love to sit back and watch a
blind bowler. I have never seen it and would be seriously
impressed!

My uncle is a blind bowler.  He lives in Indiana and has been blind since he was 20.  His career high game is 257 and series is like 660 something.

My father in law is a blind bowler as well. He recently came back into the game last fall after a 10 year lay off. He's averaging 135 and had a high game of a 209 during the season and a high triple around 480.

Mr. White Dot is a member of the local Lions Club (White Cane people).  Every year in January his club competes in a tournament of all the Lions Clubs in our district.  I've bowled it a couple of times, and it's a blast.

The cool part is they have a team or two of blind bowlers bowling with us.  They set up rails on the approach (hold the rails down with some house balls) and they bowl with us.  I actually anchored a team once because a good friend of ours is blind, and he asked me to bowl and I said yes.  It's different to bowl with rails on either side of you, because you lose 5 boards on either side.  I had to put my left hand on my knee so I wouldn't whack my wrist on the rails trying to balance myself at the line, and if I left a ten pin, forget it -- just push the reset button

I had a great time and would bowl again in a heartbeat (I think I shot 550 or so, so it wasn't horrible either).

This is slightly off topic, but I saw a team bowling in a league that called themselves "Deaf Bowling Team". I thought, "How gay", until I looked up during league play and realized they were all using sign languge to communicate!!
