The Foul Line...
« on: March 06, 2005, 07:51:35 AM »
Ok, how important is it to be close to the foul line at release? I guess when I first started bowling I kept tripping the foul light because every time I look down after I throw the ball I am a good 6-7 inches from the foul line. Watching the pro's on T.V. I see that most of them are able to stop just before the line. How much is this hurting my game? And if it is a problem, what can I do to get past this?

I'm guessing what you'll hear is, as long as you're consistent in sliding to the same point each time, it doesn't matter.  The only reason it'd be good to be close is if you set the ball down at your foot, so you'd want your foot as close to the line as possible so the ball doesn't hit the approach.

And also, not too many people are on during the weekend.  Most people check during the week, while they are at work.

sup dawg! Uhm....truthfully, the only thing that would hurt you about stopping that far back would be that you could lay the ball down on the approach. You have a bit of loft though so in my opinion I think it kind of helps, because it helps you keep the ball on the lane more. (your lofting partly over the approach, as opposed to over more of the lane) I am pretty sure I do the same thing, but it doesnt hurt me at all. Its just a comfort thing I guess?
