UPS Shipping Times Variation
« on: February 19, 2007, 08:21:48 AM »
Here is something that doesn't make sense to me.....

I shipped a ball to a guy at Syracuse, NY on a Wednesday 2-14 and he gets the ball on Monday 2-19 (today). Thats 5 days

He ships me a ball on Friday 2-16 and it is scheduled for delivery next Friday 2-23. (the tracking no. shows the ball left NY on Friday 2-16) Thats 7 days.

Does anyone know why it takes 5 days to go from Oklahoma to NY, but 7 days to go from NY to Oklahoma?

Everyone knows where New York is.  It takes extra time reading the maps to find Oklahoma.

Mighta arrived at the store after the truck left and sat all weekend.  Effectively it was a Monday ship instead of Friday.  Since you dropped off on Wednesday, even if it missed the truck on Wednesday, it would have gotten moving on Thursday.  While some of the delivery machinery works during the weekend, it might not be all of it, and your ball got hung up in a step that didn't run over the weekend.

One is 3 business days and the other is 4 business days. With potential local problems, tons of ice and snow across the country,  I'd say that is far from unreasonable. Remember these delivery times are not guaranteed, for the most part.

Note:
(Syracuse is a MAJOR snow belt city. Rt 78 in eastern Pennsylvania was closed last week due to a major snow and ice condition. Hundreds of cars were stuck without food or heat for over 20 hours and the Red Cross, in addition to other emergency personnel,  had to be called out to save the lives of these people. Syracuse is North of that section of Rt 78. Might have been a little more important than a bowling ball delivery. )

Its the head wind coming out west. Anyone that flys knows it takes more time going right to left than left to right.

UPS worked today. They delivered the ball in NY today. The other Guy sent the ball to me by the same UPS ground that I sent a ball to him.

Shelly, I've had that happen in the past, but this time the ball was dropped off at the store at 2:30 PM in NY by the shipper. They acknowledged that same evening that it had departed NY. Evidently the truck stopped somewhere for the weekend. The one I sent to NY, I dropped off at UPS at 4:30 PM and it still went out that night. I tracked it all the way to NY day by day.
