Why does urethane work so much better than resin on long oil patterns? Our local house messed up and put down a long( guessing 50Ft) and flat pattern. Possibly a sport shot. I was standing way right with an Idol and Trick and leaving washouts and 5 pins. Then last frame of 1st game pulled out a Columbia 300 urethane Beast C and struck. Next 2 games were 242,207. Had Guys on either side of me with Halo could not get the ball to turn the corner.... Thank you

Your experience is not typical, unless the pattern is heavily walled.  If that is the case then you are able to get way right and have a hook stop look that is not available with stronger equipment.  The problem the other bowlers are having is that they are not able to square up but rather are trying to over power the oil from their normal angles.   On long sport patterns I dont know anyone who would opt for urethane.  We are playing on a 52 foot sport pattern right now, and everyone is starting about 12 board with no out angle, then gradually moving in as the heads break down.  Nobody is using a lot of surface, but nobody is using urethane.

I can tell you this, it was not heavily walled. If you leaked the shot to the right it did not recover. I even took a 1000 fresh abralon pad to several of my oil balls( Trick, Asylum, Lock) same thing. Just slid on the outside. For the heavy oil balls there was a very short reaction time off the pattern. Saw several 220-230 average bowlers with same experience. I had hit the Beast/C with 1000 on the spinner before coming to the center. The center league coordinator came on the speaker during practice to apologize , that there was a problem with the oil machine and it put out a heavy long pattern...

Since its probably long oil more than heavy oil makes sense because urethane hooks early and doesn't need dry on the backend to hook which in this case wasn't there.

The key to a very long pattern is squaring up.  You clearly did a good job of that.  I still think it was your sngle of attack, rather than urethane that gave you success.  I have bowled a lot on patterns from 45 to 52 feet.  My best luck has always been with strong pearls starting inside 10 and making parallel moves left.

No problem. Good to know. I was just surprised the Urethane carried the 5 pin and my stronger Reactive would not from the same line/angle. I personally liked the shot once I found a line that worked. Nice to see the Grip it and Rip it Guys puzzled at the shot … LOL

5 pin isnt usually a problem for urethane on long oil if you can get far enough right.  10 pin snd even 8-10 can be though.  I yhink the earlier poster may be right.  Long buff, but not high volume.
