Personally, I think it’s ridiculous.

Should make FloBowling retract their headline if Rash wasn't serious.
The Future of Bowling: Bowling is a once-popular tavern game played with a heavy ball and ten pins.

Wait why is it news that Rash said something very stupid?  When has anything he ever had to say mattered except to show off what a dingus he is?  Usually don't say just shut up and bowl but with that guy it is warranted.  Might give Chad bad ideas to "save" bowling.

Only ball in current line up 30% urethane 70% reactive. Would hardly qualify as urethane. Don't see BOO YAH on list of balls currently manufactured.

Urethane is a small market. Most bowlers don't realize that. Urethane is not for everyone… and in most cases over utilized

Truer words never spoken.

Yet Urethane topics here seem to dominate, as if Urethane balls are the new second coming of ball technology. I often wonder why there is such a disconnect from reality.  :o

Totally agree urethane is a fad and pretty much worthless on house shot for me and dare say many others basically ever.  Hard even to dial in carry with Covert Tank so far.  Just don't like the word ban at all with the current clown car governing body the sport has.

If urethane is making carry down... What's the best solution?
1- Wouldn't a short pin solid symmetric still make the turn?
2- go around the carry down with a pearl like rash?
3- just use urethane too?

1. no
2. only an option if the pattern is short enough and there is a little bump to the outside
3. if your abilities allow

The one thing TV doesn't accurately portray at a PBA event is how quick a player's ball gets down the lane and how many times it revolves as it does.  It's the first thing you will notice in person.  At 19 or 20 mph and rev rates of 450+ the ball is hummin'.  The lanes change faster and more than most bowlers will ever see.

This whole thing sounds like us guys that used to hook urethane bitching about the straight guys using reactive and how the 3 flat tens a game they used to leave were now gone.

Here is my thought process when something like this happens.  If the carry down is around 6-8 boards; I take a ball that will give me decent amount of push through the front and just enough backend motion to kick out the corners and move in to 15-17 at the arrows and play as though the 10 board is the gutter.  I keep my shoulders square and typically target around 12 board break point.  That gives me a couple boards of room to the right before risking hitting the carry down.  I think if you try to stay to the outside then you have to be too perfect or you will shoot 150 pretty quickly.  I tend to get away from the trouble and find a ball that will match up playing just inside of where the trouble is.

The simple reality is that if you are going to go around it; you have to be so accurate as to be able to set a quarter 40 feet downlane and be able to roll over it 90% of the time in order to score well and most of us wouldnt be able to do that.  One board inside of target could mean you bring 2-8-10 into play from the carry down and a board to the outside of target could result in the same if you do not have the right ball match up.  You could do a 1-2 inch pin to PAP layout and move to the extreme outside.  But once again.  If you miss a pinch inside, you may be looking at a run away brooklyn from that early hook spot or even hitting the 2 pin in the face.  Most house shots may not even have enough volume of oil outside of 5 board to even get the ball to push more than 30 feet before wanting to hook.  Just my opinion of course but basing this on my own experiences.  Most conditions will have enough volume in the first 30-35 feet that you could do a lateral move with something weaker or make a move inside of 3rd arrow and play to 12 board as a break point.  Even if you dont carry all that well.  I would rather shoot 210-220 then shoot 150 trying to fight the outside.  Might make the difference between cashing in a tournament, winning a bracket, or leaving with empty pockets.

Whats usually your coverstock, surface, core, overall strength to accomplish this?
I'm also a 2 hander

My favorite ball for playing inside is the Violent Eruption.  I have had this ball since its release about 7-8 years ago and never tried to replace it as it has been that good for me. Really anything symmetric with a cover that is clean through the fronts and a core that revs up well in the midlane without being too flippy on the backend but more of a hard arcing motion.  I think the core numbers were around 2.48 RG and .036 diff for the Violent.  The layout is 45 x 5 x 30 with a small weight hole around P3 which I know will have to be plugged up before August.  The surface I have currently is 2000 abralon with Storm 2, Rough Buff, or Clean and Sheen, Crown Factory Compound as all those polishes were pretty similar.

If the Violent is a little too much, then I go to my trusty Deep Freeze and square up my angle through the front part of the lane since the core is weaker than the Violent.  Layouts on both are close to identical.

I have lower back issues so urethane is my friend. I’m one of the fortunate ones who can trick urethane and get it to strike more than most. Also if I’m bowling a singles tournament and can strike with urethane while making them harder for others, who in there right mind wouldn’t take that advantage
