I have the Natural in my bag. I was very happy when I heard there was modern urethane balls being released to the market. I had been wanting a urethane with a mid performance core inside it since 2003. When I found out about the natural I went out an bought one, bought a nice condition Natural from a member on this site. It''s been the only ball I''ve used for leauge the last 2 months, up until this past sunday where the lanes were rather tough too much oil for the natural.
I find urethane is very smooth. It can overreact on you like anything else if you get the ball into the dry too soon. You do have to be more accurate when using this ball and that is why I love mine so much! You have some miss area but not a lot, maybe 3 boards right at most before the dry part of the lane causes the ball to react too soon. You might have 2 boards of miss to the left of your mark. So 5 boards of miss at the arrows on a THS with urethane versus maybe 8-10 boards at the arrows with pearl or solid. What I also noticed is if you miss your break point target down lane you will most likely not carry on a shot that might carry with a reactive ball. To me urethane is a great ball for many things. It''s not a ball to over/under on you unexpectedly, it makes you roll quality shots, and it makes you repeat your shots.
I use it as a learning tool but at the same time this ball has given me some great scores. Some not so great but that was all user error.
Honestly the ball for you depends on your lane conditions, age, and surface. If you have higher oil volume with a really smooth synthetic surface, the Hype might be what you need. If you have a medium oil shot with wood lanes, you might want to look for a desperado or an older urethane with a pancake block. Anything inbetween would be for the natural.
