Urethane Carrydown?
« on: November 07, 2020, 07:36:41 PM »
What is the best way to combat Urethane carrydown? I bowl a 5 man league and one of my teammates throws only urethane. Just curious how to combat this? Looking for Ball/Surface combos as well as moves. Inside line ect..  Thank you

Usually you have to get inside or outside of where they are playing.  Especially with your break point down lane.  What ever ball that is for you on the condition you are bowling on
Ignite your game, and set the lanes on fire. www.facebook.com/ignitebowling  or @ignite_bowling

Need to get your breakpoint away from theirs.

If it's on a house pattern I usually resort to the boomerang pearl ball and use a breakpoint outside of theirs and hope I don't miss in to their traffic, because the ball will wiggle on the carrydown and you never know what will happen.

Other option is to grab something stronger and get inside of them, and hope you don't miss outside and hit their traffic, because again your ball will wiggle.

Usually it takes more than one person tossing urethane to affect the pattern a lot in my experiences, but every environment is different and if you play the same spot on the lane, guess it could be more substantial

can't believe nobody here has been the class clown and given the obvious answer:  get a new teammate

Not an option...

It was a bit of a joke.  You do have to move away from the spot your hitting if you can't get the ball to face up properly.  The other option is to get a super quick response ball that will really go when it sees friction.

This is one of the challenges of the game these days.....

I don't experience a huge shift when urethane is in-play, but do you bowl before or after that teammate in the lineup? Not sure if it actually makes a difference but if it's after then you're hitting that "fresh" carry-down. Going before at least you have a buffer of 6+ bowlers before it's your turn again. Let the rest of your lanes balance it out a little.

First look at how the urethane guy is playing the lane.  Generally they will be playing fairly direct near the oil line on a house shot.  There will still be plenty if dry to the right of their line.  It then gets down to your style.  If you olay straighter yourself just make small parallel moves to the right if you experience carrydown.  If you like to hook the lane just adjust your breakpoint down the lane you should easily  be able to over power the carrydown with most everyone throwing resin

The real question is when are you experiencing this?  If it's after the first half of the first game your move is 2 or 3 in with your feet and circle it a little more.
