US Open Question?
« on: February 01, 2006, 01:29:06 AM »
I have a couple questions...  anyone bowling in the US Open this year?  I just saw the entry list yesterday and didn't recognize any BR names.. although I may have overlooked them!  We have a couple PSU bowlers entered this yr... I'll be pulling for them .

My real question.  The Brunswick Zone center in North Brunswick, NJ has Pro-Anvilane synthetic lanes.  I have heard these surfaces have dark boards in them down the lane towards the break point area.  Does anyone know exactly where these dark boards are located?  (is it like the 8 board 50ft down and lane and 13 board 40 ft down the lane?).  Maybe BrunsRicH has an answer?

Thanks,
S^2

Should be the same as in Baton Rouge Nat's last year, if I'm not mistaken they will be the 10, and 20 boards on both sides, generally known as down lane targets usually located 45-50ft down lane from foul line.

Well.. I've determined that the "down lane markings" as described by brunswick are indeed on the 10 and 15 boards... now just need to figure out the distances...

Thanks,

I believe they are at 40 and 50 feet.

from the close-up photos, they appear to be about 1 ft to 2 ft long...  maybe 45ft and 40 ft?

It may be just me, but when I use them (fairly often) it seems to matter which end of the strip I'm looking at; ie, in reality it's, imo, more like 4 aiming points to choose from.  I know it probably really doesn't matter (I'm not that accurate), but it "feels" different.

cool... we have 6 people from our area bowling in it this yr...  None of our houses have the strips, so they were interested in making some "mock" strips with tape to get a feel for them...

I've bowled on the pattern layed out on AMF synthetics, and actually didn't think it was all that tough.  Yes it was touchy, but I was able to play just about anywhere on the lane and get to the pocket....doing it consistantly and carrying.. well that's another story and one of the main reasons why I'm not bowling in it...

Wow, can only 2 years make a difference! that's how long it's been since I bowled league there. Been waiting til my memory got refreshed.

The stripes/dark boards are on the 10 and 15 board, starting at 40 and 45 feet down the lane. Not sure how long they actually are. I suspect about 2-2+ feet long.

They are great targeting devices.
