I am a subscriber. USBC ran a promotion about a year ago: an annual subscription for $9.99---hard to pass up the price. The regular fee is $34.99. I will probably re-up.

I like the videos. Most are pretty basic, but we sometimes need to be reminded of basic stuff. I recommend a subscription because I think that you will like it.

I did this as well.  I have enjoyed it.  Mine renewed automatically. My only complaint is that there was no notice of impending renewal. Just an email one day that it had renewed at 34.99.

But I like the vids. Gotta get my son to watch more of them.

The comments from St. Croix and Snakester are precisely the reason I haven't subscribed.  If you read the fine print in the initial subscription pitch it says that they automatically renew your subscription.  If you want to cancel, it is your responsibility to contact them and opt out of the deal at the end of the year otherwise they hit your credit card (they already have your info) for another year without any notification. 
And, when they do the auto renewal, they don't give you any break or discount on the subscription price, it's full rate $34.99.  What also bothers me is that they are still sending out email sub pitches as low as $7.99 for a year to non-subscribers while their existing subscribers are being renewed for more than four times that amount.  Not a very nice way to treat old customers.

My locker rental at the alley that I use for extra shoes and a "just in case" I want to practice after work ball, is $40 a year. More than USBCBA... I rarely open that locker..lol

oh i forgot to mention... BTM magazine is auto renew at $37.75/yr. I've been doing it since it returned to online form. I kinda miss the soft copies with the unique covers.

The discount being offered only to new customers and not to older established customers is a common practice.  Cable, satellite, and phone companies come to mind.

So is the auto-renewal policy.  Lots of companies do this (magazines, software, etc) but you usually have a chance to opt out.

According to the e-mail receipt from USBC, you can opt out at any time after the automatic renewal and receive a pro rata refund.

I checked the home site for the Academy, but I did not see any promotions. My anniversary date is in late February, so that might be the time when USBC offers deals.
