Long story short, got strung out on heroin for a decade , did four years in federal prison, been out a year and clean for going on five years..I decided the time is right to get back into bowling..I used to be a slightly above average league and tourney bowler, multiple honor scores.Highest season avg was just north of 220.. My question is what good for equipment these days... I haven’t bowled since the end of 2011..The balls that worked best for me were Brunswick’s Absolute Inferno and Classic Zone..The Track Rising S.E was a beast for me too...What’s currently available that would give me a similar reaction..My favorite layout was pin under ring finger..Ball speed hovers around 17mph , I believe my rev rate was 350-375... thanks in advance...
Honestly, I would find a pro shop guy that other bowlers in your area trust unless one you went to in the past is still around. You are likely going to get a bunch of us on here with different opinions from all the different ball companies. With that said, there is a lot out there right now you can get a good deal on. The Ebonite Futura I believe is one of the best rolling balls out there right now if your pro shop guy can still get one. Brunswick bought out Ebonite, Columbia 300, Track, and Hammer. Honestly though. You can go with just about anything in the mid-performance catagory and lower mid catagory as a great 1-2 punch to start with. The two I recommend are the Ebonite Futura and Columbia Beast.
Is there a ball company you are really partial to? I noticed you mentioned Brunswick in your post. If you wanted to go with Brunswick, you could go with the Igniter Solid and Melee Jab or Hero as a good 1-2 punch.
The thing that is really different now is that starting August 1st, you are not allowed weight holes anymore. So you can put just about any layout you want and not have to worry about too much side weight, finger weight, or thumb weight unless the ball happens to start with more than 4 ounces of top weight. But most balls released typically start between 2 to 4 ounces undrilled.
