USBC Card Questions - Receipt, Use, Etc.
« on: June 28, 2016, 10:21:30 AM »
Hi.  I just got back into bowling the past month or so and had to pay for a USBC card.  I still haven't received it yet.  Question(s):

1) How long does it take to receive one?
2) Does it get shipped to my house or bowling league?
3) Will I need to pay for a new one this fall?
4) Any other benefits besides being a "member" and having an "official" average?

Thanks.

Welcome back! Never ordered membership during Summer league so not sure how long it will take for delivery. During Winter league it takes about 30/45 days. Card gets mailed to your home. Benefits have just about disappeared .. don't know how long you were away .. but awards have been GREATLY reduced .. fun in bowling is still there .. glad to see you back!

Onedit: You have to renew each Winter League!

It used to be that if you newly sanctioned in the summer (no sanction previous fall league) then your sanction was good for the upcoming fall league as well.  That is possibly not the case anymore.  I can't access the rules database from work.

Thanks for input guys.  Tonight is week 5 I think in summer league and no card yet.  Yeah I think back in the 1990s when I was a USBC member then, you got free stuff.  I think there was also a USBC magazine that I got monthly or something.  Maybe patches or pins too.  I looked on the site today and there don't seem to be many benefits haha.  I think in the past I also got a discount on tournaments or something.

I can confirm, that's not the case anymore.  USBC is money hungry.

I think the annual membership ends at the end of July.  So basically, by the time I get the card, it will be expired.  LOL!  Everything wrong with bowling today summed up in this thread haha.

Card Effective Date
Upon receipt of a membership application and the appropriate dues, membership will be valid:
a. For the season starting August 1 through July 31.
b. Through October 1 of the following season for summer leagues and tournaments. Youth who turn
20 during the season are not granted the October 1 extension for tournament play; youth
membership expires July 31 of the season in which they turn 20 years old. If a youth member
bowling in a summer league turns 20 during the season and the league continues beyond
July 31, the bowler may complete the league as a youth bowler. For individuals authorized
as mentally challenged, the age requirement is waived.
For membership to be effective as of the date purchased in a league, the league secretary/bowling
center must forward the league membership dues, application cards and league application to the
local association/league processor (youth) within 30 days. Otherwise, membership benefits are not
effective until the date received at the local association office/league processor (youth).

The real annoying thing is starting 7/6, only USBC members will be able to use the "Find a Member" feature on bowl.com.  No more public viewing of bowlers and averages.  That will be a major inconvenience going forward.

There's a perk that I've used for the past 10+ years that still is available to USBC members: reduced price on booking a room at a Hilton resort.

Lately with my travels, if I have to stay overnight somewhere, my family and I have been staying at a Hampton Inn, which is part of Hilton's properties. You get a discount there (at any Hilton property) with being a USBC member:

http://bowl.com/Travel/Travel_Home/Hilton_Rewards/

You can stack the rewards as well; for example, use this to get the discount, plus apply them to any mileage program you have with an airline (unfortunately, SWA isn't one of them anymore).

This definitely does come in handy wherever we go, barring Reno or Vegas, so it definitely is one to keep in mind if you have to travel anywhere.

YOu will not receive a card for summer league's.  An your current membership expires on July 31 2016. But your membership is good to the conclusion of the summer league.  Once fall league's start up those membership run Aug 1 2016 to July 31 2017. That is why a lot of summer league's no longer certified.

Well USBC still doesn't even recognize me.  I wonder where the $ went.  It was $21.  What a joke.  I assume I will need to get a new membership in the fall because I don't even know my USBC number because the website doesn't even recognize my name.  It does recognize a name I used in 2009 but the league secretary then misspelled my name.  Things like these would never happen if I was in the NBA or MLB lol.
