USBC: Have there been any improvements in 8 years?
« on: June 29, 2013, 05:21:09 PM »
The United States Bowling Congress (USBC) was formed in 2005 by a merger of the American Bowling Congress, Women's International Bowling Congress, Young American Bowling Alliance, and USA Bowling.

AFTER EIGHT YEARS, has the national governing body made any positive strides in any of the following categories?

Have there been any improvements in ...

* providing recognition for award achievements?
* league services?
* enforcement of rules and regulations?
* spending of membership dues?
* creating a better image for the game?
* promoting the game in a worthwhile manner?
* realistic cost-cutting measures?
* things that an average bowler/member would recognize?
* the USBC "System of Justice"?
* dealing with major problems?
* organizational pride?

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

No offense intended, but I highly doubt that. There may be a restructure of the organization or a take over by an outside entity, but it will still be similar to what we have now. There is just too many bowlers and too much investment in infrastructure for it to just "cease" to exist.

Barring something unforeseen, USBC will likely cease to be a viable entity within three or four years.

Doesn't anyone understand what the word OPEN means in the context of a tournament.  There is a womens tournament not open to men for the same reason that adults are not allowed to compete in junior tournaments, but juniors are allowed to compete in adult open tournaments.

Women, by and large, are not competitive with the men.  That is why they are protected in their tournaments.

Women pay the same certification fee so why can they bowl in two USBC tournaments at the national level, and at the local and state levels for that matter?

Dear On Further Review:

Although that's a valid point, it doesn't address the original post, which asks if anyone has noticed any improvement in the national governing body over the eight years since USBC was formed.

Yes we do, but we're talking about the double standard with the women.  They think that the men are being sexist and discriminatory if they have mens leagues or mens tournaments, but apparently the same doesn't apply to womens leagues or tournaments.

This double standard exists in all aspects of life not just bowling. Men are discriminated against heavily in the modern society

Don't say that too loud, several other groups will jump out of their shoes to decry that and let us know how much worse they have it.

I just clicked reply and have not read other replies.  I am only commenting on the current status, no comparison of before or after merger.

* providing recognition for award achievements? - Yes
* league services? - Yes
* enforcement of rules and regulations? - Yes
* spending of membership dues? - Not Sure
* creating a better image for the game? - No
* promoting the game in a worthwhile manner? - No
* realistic cost-cutting measures? - Not Sure
* things that an average bowler/member would recognize? - What does that mean?
* the USBC "System of Justice"? - What is this?
* dealing with major problems? - Sure
* organizational pride? - No, there is not a higher standard.  The league needs an oath but just written down somewhere, so the biggest nerds will give a shiz.

So honestly, I don't know what my money is spent on.  I don't see marketing in the center or out in the city much.  The youth league seems dead.  I don't understand why bowling centers or the USBC aren't advertising in my area.  They should be to grow the league.

If the compensation for 40 employees at the USBC is $8million like previously posted, I'm pissed.
