The United States Bowling Congress has hired chemist Robert Roloff as a research engineer to work in the Equipment Specifications and Certification area.
Roloff primarily will be involved with USBC testing of the various components of scoring in the "System of Bowling" such as bowling balls, pins, lane oils and lane surfaces. The Mukwonago, Wis., resident -- who earned a B.S. in chemistry from Marquette University in Milwaukee and is a 200-plus average bowler -- also will be instrumental in analyzing materials such as lane oils and lane cleaners.
Roloff previously was an inorganic laboratory operations manager for TestAmerica in Watertown, Wis., where he managed several chemists and analysts for the national company that provides analytical laboratory environmental quality testing services. Roloff also worked as a scientist at S.C. Johnson in Racine, Wis., a water quality chemist with the City of Milwaukee and an environmental analytical chemist for Minnesota Valley Testing Laboratory in Oak Creek, Wis.
"USBC is very pleased to have Robert join the Equipment Specifications and Certification team," said USBC Technical Director Neil Stremmel. "Robert's extensive background as a chemist and his knowledge of bowling will be extremely valuable as USBC moves forward with equipment testing and working with manufacturers."
