Why is it so hard?
« on: November 18, 2010, 05:00:01 AM »
To notify someone that you are not going to be bowling anymore?

I had a guy that was going to bowl as a regular with my team this season. He responded to my post I put up on this very site earlier this season, and If you are reading this you know who you are.

Anyway, The first week he had a death in the family, So no big deal their I understand him not being around, he then bowled three or four weeks with no issue. Then the issues started, He said he had a work meeting a week in advance I found a sub and it was fine the next three weeks however he was a no call no show, I tried to contact him via phone and text with no luck never returned calls or texts. Finally I called and told him he owed us 39 dollars for the weeks he missed and that he didn't need to show up anymore.

Why is it so hard to say "I cant bowl anymore" I mean you cant even be man enough to say something?  Just run and hide?

If you read this and I think you will, you owe us money so crawl out of your hole and be a man about it.

sorry for venting a little.

Good luck in getting your money back, but what about him losing his USBC card? It seems like he didn't give notice withdrawing from the league.

Another question. Why does the team have to pay his money when he is not there? I don't understand. If you have someone gone for four weeks, that total can run up real quick.

Apparently people don't realize they have to give notice to the league about there withdrawal, so they can pull there card.  It happened twice in our league this year, one a whole team, and the other an individual.  The individual was on my team.

The individual story was that we made an agreement on the first night of bowling that this person was to bowl every other week and a different person was supposed to sit out each time.  It was well organized even though it may not sound like it.  Well, the 3rd week he is supposed to bowl comes around and he is a no call, no show.  So, we called him and texted, he said I can no longer show till the first week of November.  Which was fine, but in the mean time, we had to scramble to make sure the people that were not supposed to bowl the weeks he was there could bowl and if not, we had to find subs.  Well, in the meantime, one of guys goes down for the year with a serious back injury.  So, now we are really hurting, we went 3 weeks with only 3 of us regulars showing each week.  So, we finally got our 4th back and we asked one of our subs to bowl full time, and thankfully he agreed.  Then comes the first week of November and we ask him if he going to show up the week before this.  He doesn't respond till 4pm of the day of bowling saying no.  So, my team calls our subs and noone can show.  Oh well, but he still owes us 32 bucks, for 2 times that he was a no show, no call.  So, we have to pony up the bucks for now, but we told him we want the money, It has been 2 weeks since the incident and he still hasn't given us the money.  So, last week we decided to call him and tell him not to show up anymore, but still come and give us the money.  We will see, but he still hasn't called the league to tell him that he is done.

The team story was that one whole team stopped showing up and never let anyone know.  Kind of funny, actually.

As far as the team owing the money - not sure how most leagues are, but in all the leagues I've ever been in it has been a total owed.  So, it's up to the captain to make sure the funds are paid.  Prize funds are developed and based on the number of people bowling (any paying).

Here is what our paperwork says:

quote:

The amount to be paid by each bowler each night shall be $20.00.

Each team captain shall be responsible for the team's bowling fees of $100.00 each night, regardless of whether the team has a full roster
unless the bowling center is not charging the league for vacant positions.

Fees will be paid in full on the night that the games are bowled.  Team members who bowl that fail to pay the full weekly fees may have
their team games subject to forfeiture.  Arrearages of one week may be allowed and the bowler must be  current in league fees upon
his/her return.

Any team with a member more than one week in arrears or who owes services fees for returned checks must use an absent score for that
member.  If a team uses any bowler (rostered team member or floating substitute) for any member more than one week in arrears, their
games will be forfeited.

Any league member who is more than three weeks in arrears will be sent a certified letter, in accordance with USBC Rule 115b, to
appear before the Board of Directors to answer charges of non-payment of league fees.

Arrearages incurred by any team member will be taken out of that team’s standings and prize money, and any individual award prize
money for which that member may be eligible, in order to balance the league treasury.

In the past we have had people drop out and special meetings to see if the league will allow the team to use a vacant score and not pay for the empty spots.  It does affect the prize fund, so it needs to be voted on.

The other options are for the captain (or team as a whole) to chip in for those weeks and get payment back at the end of the year (as they will split the rostered spots winnings), or give the spot to another bowler and let them pay the missed weeks in return for that spot's share of the prize fund.
