Our local association currently has 8 centers that where it holds city tournaments. A center will host all of tournament, Team, Doubles and Singles.
The hosting house looks at this tournament as an opportunity to attract new bowlers. The net result is that they put out the easiest shot they can muster.
Scores continue to climb. You end up with needing to shoot 2300 + for all events. This year a bowler shot 891 handicap score in singles.
I wish the local association would require a tournament pattern be laid out. Nothing stupid tough, not necessarily a sport pattern, but something a little more challenging than a walled house shot.
Tournament entries are down every year so I don’t think the easy pattern is helping there.
This is not really something personal for me. I have had great success in the tournament over the years and had a good tournament this year. In fact this would probably hurt me as I’m just a house hack.
But it seems to me that if you want to identify the best bowlers in the association you need something more than a THS.
