Wrist pain
« on: November 30, 2008, 06:08:06 AM »
I will be going to the doctor this week to find out what I can do to rid myself of the pain in my wrist. In the mean time I was wondering what others have done when they have had pain in their wrist. My pain is when I begin to have all the weight of the ball in my right hand at various positions during the release. This is my first time feeling this type of pain. Is rest the answer ? I would consider bowling left handed or trying the two handed approach next year. Depending what the doctor informs me this week. My question is. What are some things that other's who have had wrist pain done to get healthy ? Thank for your input

check all options, not just what the doctor says.  i had wrist problems for 8 months or so, and the doctor said it was carpel tunnel.  i've never had problems with my wrist, so i was a little skeptic when he wanted to cut me open and do the surgery.  i was bowling 3 nights a week and didnt want to lose out on the money, so i kept bowling instead of laying off for a bit.

i eventually had to go down to 14lbs as the pain was unbearable.  when the season was over, i took almost 3 weeks off to rest and a bit of rehab.  started lifting weights to strengthen my wrist.  i was on the verge of surgery and contemplated bowling left handed.  after the 3 weeks, the pain was almost all gone and the strength was coming back.

i've gone from hitting on the ball real good, to being a soft stroker and now i'm close to being able to hit on the ball like i use to.  not too mention, i found i liked the 14lbers, and i have tried throwing 15 & 16 lbs to see if my wrist could handle it and i got through it with flying colors.

my advice would be....dont take as long as i did to rest and rehab.  after that if it doesnt go away or get better, go see a hand/wrist specialist.  but try all options before surgery.  if i knew it would've taken 3 weeks to get back close to normal, i would've rested A LONG TIME AGO
