Sport Shot Tape (link)

Link below, is to a tape of the Sport Lane pattern, that is put down at Beverly Lanes in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Shot has been eased up  since last year. Last year it was 2 to 1. This year, 2.5 to 1.

League Stats: 16 Team Trio league, 4 games. Bowl 2 games, move lanes, and switch teams. 18 point system (1 pt. man pt., 3 pt. team game, 6 pt. team series).

Looks easier than it is. League high average around 194 right now (Sr. Regional Pro), solid lefty stroker. Top righty is 192.

This is my first year in the league. A real challenge.

Any comments on the pattern?
How a righty should play it?
How a lefty should play it?
Equipment?

Don't you need, like, 80 units to have a sport shot?  Yours barely goes up to 40.

No the differetnial can only be 2 to 1. If you receive approval from the USBC, the house can run 2.5 to 1.  You better have a plastic ball for spares, and no how to throw fairly hard, straight.

Well, I'm sure my teammate will be flattered with the solid lefty stroker comment. Even though the ratio has increased since the Winter, I am down almost 10 pins from where I finished.  There definitely seems to be more friction in the heads.

There is no right answer but I can tell you that I have had my best nights when everyone on the pair plays similar angles and refrains from using charcoal inside 15. It is sometimes difficult for the raisins to lay off the sandpaper even when the amount of oil doesn't dictate using surface.

I know.  We had a sport league last summer and the laneman put out 80 units in addition to making the shot flatter than a THS.  He didn't really get the "doesn't matter how much oil, only where you put it" part.

Carrydown is a beeyotch when there's that much oil.  A lot gets pushed down quickly and even when you throw a "good" shot, you might hit a puddle at 38 feet, just as your ball starts to hook.

I think there was interest in having another sport league this summer from a competition standpoint but no one wanted to have to put up with the laneman's BS.  He and the local association rep had some kind of issues about how to pull tapes, and getting him to do anything was a hassle.

I am bowling in a sport league now, I understand when they show the lane and the amount of oil on it. I do not understand how to read the graph though. Could you guys explain it to me? thanks.

Chuck has  a nice game. This was my first voyage into Sport Bowling...I thought the lanes would be soupy. Lyle Zikes has been working with me every Tuesday on my game...He recommended shooting some Sr. PBA Regionals. I didn't really have the desire to do it. And had basically retired from competition. He thought the Summer Trio league might interest me. I really like the whole "Sport Bowling" premise . . . You get to bowl with bowlers that are interested in improving, and want a challenge. I imagine if you couldn't accept "Sport" as a challenge you wouldn't bowl more than one season of it. I've already inquired about bowling the winter Sport League at Beverly. (I'm the lefty on Team #9.)
