How old is this article?  I never had a problem with having too much oil outside at the end of the pattern.  If anything, I struggled to keep the outsides up.  I've seen tapes of other houses that had almost no downlane taper.  I guess I had the reverse buffer drop set right all along...

Reverse buffer drop is a new update from kegel. It allows a better front to back taper so that you can get enough volume on the outside boards up front where you want it and less down lane where you don't.This also applies to the center of the lane where to much conditioner can lead to carry down issues.

I must have misunderstood then.  I thought it was just talking about the distance at which the buffer comes down on the reverse pass.  Actually, now I can''t make sense of the article.

It does. From what I understand the brush after the forward run was holding on to a lot of oil and when it came down it would leave to much conditioner at the back of the pattern. With the reverse buffer drop the front to back taper is better as well as it can help define the break point by where you have the buffer drop.I have no personal experience with it yet, this is as I understand from others on Bowltech that do.

I'm pretty sure this is something I always had control of with my machine, a Kegel Sanction Standard SE.  Conversely, if you load up the reverse with a ton of oil, like some PBA patterns do, it shows up on the next lane.
