USBC survey call
« on: April 19, 2005, 02:07:47 AM »
I got a call the other night from the USBC. It seems they are considering starting a national tournament for seniors and was taking a survey and asking for ideas. They are also considering lowering the senior age limit from 55 to 50.

They wondered if I would bowl in such an event. I told him it would depend.

If it was held in another city other than the regular USBC national tournament I probably would not bowl. I plan to continue to bowl in the regular event for sometime and it would get too expensive to go to another site each year. But if it was held in conjunction with the USBC national tournament where I could combine a trip I probably would bowl both. They could even hold the senior event at a local house or bowl it concurrent at the convention centers.

I also felt they should transfer participation to the senior event. Guys that have gone to the national tournament for 40 years might not want to break their string but may move to the senior tournament if the participation years went with them.

I’ve also thought they may need some sort of divisions. Whether by age or average (or both) I’m not sure.

Any other ideas to make a USBC national tournament be a success?

I'm all for lowering the age limit. Seems if you can bowl on the PBA sr tour at 50, everything else should be there too.
The WIBC limit is 55, too...
I would love to see the USBC senior tournament be held annually, with a SR Queens and SR masters tied to that tournament, instead of the "ABC" and "WIBC" ties they have now.
The same location would be ok - but I think it'd be cool to be a stand alone. But yes - let the participation continue.
