Title: USBC wasting $$
Post by: Russell on May 10, 2009, 01:06:50 PM
Anyone notice that the Queens and the Clash of Champions was held in Reno?  Okay now did you notice that they used a convention center of some kind to host the show?

Why didn't they just use the stadium?

USBC spent MILLIONS building that thing as the "crown jewel" of the bowling world, now it's being used just like any other bowling center and having the finals shipped off to nearby arenas that can hold more people.

Am I missing the boat here...I couldn't help but think as I watched the shows how much money could have gone to saving our sport if they had held the finals in the stadium.

It was in the same arena as the Clash....not sure exactly where though.  Definitely not at the stadium.

I didn't think the ABC/USBC used any money to build the stadium.

It was built by the Reno/Sparks area with a contract stating that the USBC would bring the national tournaments there every 3 years for a period of time.

That contract has since been renewed.

I do believe the tournaments pay a lineage fee to use the facility.

Oh then I guess my "maybe I'm missing the boat" comment holds true.  I was under the impression that USBC had built the stadium as the premier facility for tournaments.

My mistake...

I may be wrong but I think that the USBC Womens Champianship was being bowled at the stadium so the Queens would not be able.

You are very correct that the USBC is wasting a great deal of money in their
attempt to revive womens' bowling.   That money is coming out of our dues.
Since the Supreme Court upheld Title 9, almost all gains of womens' sports
has come at the detriment of men's sports.
The stadium was built by the Reno convention authority with the agreement
that the USBC Queens would be held there every three years.
The ABC was suckered into an agreement to merge with the womens governing
group and the youth group, much to the detriment of the mens group.

Wow, that might be the most sexist remark I have ever heard here. I wonder if Reno does economically better when the women bowl as opposed to the men. Hmmmmm??????

It may be sexist but it is the truth...and the truth hurts sometimes...

The biggest waste of USBC money has been the move to TX from WI.  Leave a new tech center and property behind that they can't sell and then build all over again.  What a waste of $$$$$$$$$.

It is my beleif that the USBC will go out or under whatever comes first.

Then another governing body will come and pick up where the USBC left off. That is my thought. I also beleive that since the Womens was moved into the mens to make the USBC it has been one load of crap after another on the men.

I didn't realize that there was any men's only tournaments left.  Anyone can bowl the men's touraments (men or women), but only women can bowl the women's touraments.

I personally hold a Men's Only Tournament here in Salt Lake twice a year. It, at first pis$ed off the local association, but there isn't anything they can do about it, I sanction it through USBC myself and have seen the small growth every time.
And in the past one, I had quite a few bowlers thanking me for running Men's Only.
It is still growing and hopefully some day it'll be a huge success, I have a local center that is willing to bend over backwards for us, and we will continue using his facility

Nuts--Of course that was a sexist remark--also spot on.  The city of Reno
is not a member of USBC or a participant in any other sport.  They have
not suffered any losses.  You misunderstood my sexist post.

Speaking of sexist, it doesn't get much more sexist than that.  But I guess being sexist is OK as long as it's not a MAN that's the one being sexist.

I got into an argument over this with a couple of women at Nationals one year.  I had brought up that fact stated in quotes above and the reply was something like the more competitive women wanted to bowl against better (higher average) competition and where there was more money to be won, so I said something stupid like, well, why don't they turn the women's tournament into a lower average only (below 170) tournament open to both men and women and that started the argument about how that would not be fair to women because men are stronger then women.  I was trying to say a 160 average is a 160 average, doesn't matter if it is a man or woman, but I got drowned out by them.  Oh, well.

Equal rights...oh wait, no not if it doesn't benefit them!
Do we have a men's only USBC?  How about the PBA?  Women can bowl with the men but men can't bowl in the womens PBA.  Yeah that's fair.

Yeah, if it's SCRATCH, maybe they have a point. Maybe. Handicap, NO WAY!  Just more two-faced BS that passes for "equality" these days.
