Can use a X-out ball for PBA events ?
« on: June 06, 2012, 12:45:55 PM »
What are the rules for PBA regional and regular events regarding X-outs and blems of approved equipment ?  Also what are the current rules for ball plugging and surface defects. I could not find the answer in either the approved equip section or the rule book online. I know the procedure for weights and surface management as they are addressed.

Thanks, Al

plugged balls are OK. X-outs, etc are ok. Ball must meet all USBC specs for topweight, sideweight, etc, and be listed under approved equipment. All grips, thumb inserts, etc., must also be from product registered companies. BTW, that is in the rulebook.

As long as the X-Out has a serial you're fine. I used a Rule GP2 X-out and was perfectly legal.

Thanks, Just wanting to be sure . Cause they do not check your stuff until the cut to 16. If you used something unapproved then you are DQ'd.

Cobalt Bomb plugged balls are not ok. Did they change the rules on that?

They changed the rule a few years ago.   As long as the statics are legal and the ball is from a product registered company and it has a serial number on it, it's legal

Plugged balls are ok for regional stops with clear ball plug!!! From the PBA rules book: rule # 11.8 plugged balls can be used, but no foreign substance can be placed in the plug!!

They are letting colored plugs be used.   I see it all the time

Plugged balls have been allowed in PBA competition for a few years now. At all levels. If the ball and inserts are on the approved equipment list and meet USBC specs, it's OK. You can even engrave your own serial number if you resurface the old one off.

Why do people answer these questions if they don't know the answer for sure?

I"m surprised that they would allow that now but fine. It used to be a big deal.

It's part of a move over the last few years by the PBA to both make participating in the tournaments more affordable and to align their rules with the USBC as much as possible.
