Comparison and advice on drilling

Hi, on thursday I'll buy at last my new ball... After all of your advice (especially Charlest's) I am moving to 15lb.... Well the question is, based on my stats (On profile) How will this drilling work on me, please compare if you have drilled a ball this way how was the reaction... (I am buying a KI Pearl, typically playing on medium oil, sometimes above medium):

Pin Placement: 5" from bowler's PAP, located beneath the fingers. If PAP is not known, place pin under the bridge.
BOMB Placement: On the PAP
Balance Hole: Lower track players or low to medium RPM's: Drill balance hole into the locator pin, back to 1/2 oz. positive side weight

You've got to calm down when someone does not reply to your post at 5 AM in the morning ...

Just checking the Ebo website for this ball's drilling instructions and where they decided to put the "bomb" this time. See

This is pretty radical drilling, kicking out the bomb/CG/MB that far.

I think most drillers might not ordinarily suggest something like except for an advanced player who already has one drilled more normally, and then only for a specialized oil pattern. By picking this I almost feel like you should be buying a different ball.

Please wait for a professional driller to comment on this drilling.

Let's ask a more basic question: why this ball?
Did you pick it or your driller?

For someone with a 160 average, this is not the first ball that comes to my mind. I'm not saying you shouldn't use a premium ball, but why experiment so expensively with your first 15 lb ball? There are many mid-range balls that be a much better fit for your game and might be more forgivable as a first 15 lb ball.

Also, in general, a resin pearl is not a great choice for medium oil or sometimes more oil.

Well, I want a ball that outperforms my actual ones... Is a big experiment I am trying... But... all of you think I shouldn't buy it What are your recommendations for a medium-medium heavy oil ball?? I can still change my choice, my first choice was the KI Sanded thats even worse, no???

Thanks Mill, the fact is that I am really a very new bowler (one year) but I used to hook the ball using my arm and wrist, not my fingers, I had a coach to train me all of Oct, Nov and Dec... but he had to leave on business trip on Jan and since I am on my own... I have learned how to control my approach, and my release but, I have only 4-5 months practicing that, so my ball speed and revs are a little different that they used to be, now I throw a faster ball and I get medium revs (Comparing to other bowlers...) so I would love to know my ball speed but my center doesn't have the sensors for speed and I really don't know how to do it manually (That includes revs) My revs and speed match up well... My track?? How do I measure it?? For me was just a circular line of oil on the left side of my ball that had to be cleaned ... My Axis rotation is 45Deg and my axis tilt, I think I have very little axis tilt.
I play on a center that has synthetics, and another that has wood, in the synthetics they oil everyday with the same pattern (Crown shape with long buff, dunno how many feet.. I was told 40 or something like that)... And in the wood center they use typical 38ft Xmas Tree pattern)

Sorry for the lack of info... If you tell me how I'll get some more...

Gendou,

Ball speed for most of us is measured against everyone else we see bowl in our leagues and tournaments. If you observe closely, you will get an idea where yours stands. Qubica score keepers have measurements, if any centers in your area have them.

Your PAP can be gauged in general, if you can find the very first oil tracks on your ball and how far they are away from your thumb and from your middle finger. (That is, if you can't pry them away from your driller, as in normal conversation.) This is best done with your least hooking or spare ball, maybe even an old plastic or urethane ball.
