Best format and scoring for PBA xperience league
« on: May 11, 2009, 12:30:26 PM »
I was wondering what you think the best format for a PBA experience league is.  This will be a singles league. 3 or 4 games.  Not sure.

Does anybody have any fun or different scoring or formats?

It wasn't a PBA league but I bowled in a league where everyone bowled against everyone else everygame.  You received a point for everyone that you beat.  It was a scratch league and there were only 10 teams so it made keeping track pretty easy.  Just put it on a white board behind the lanes after every game.
It was pretty fun and put a different twist on the traditional league scoring..

Also, if you have an suggestions regarding handicapping.. I feel that the PBA patterns do a lot of the equalizing(depending on range of averages) and that not as much handicapping is needed.

What we do in my PBAx singles league is bowl 4 games each week. The first two games are position round, then the second two are standard schedule. This is nice because it gives everyone a chance to earn points during the position matches, and meet/bowl everyone else on the standard schedule. We go on a straight 4 point system: one per game (no series points)

We use 100% of the difference between the two bowlers' averages for handicap.

What my league usually does is this.

3 Games, Singles 4 on a pair. You get 3 points for every game you win + 1% of your series.

So if you shoot 600 and win all three games you get 15 pts for that week. If you shoot 450 and win 1 game you get 7.5 pts for the week.
It seems to work pretty well

Who are you bowling against?  The other 3 bowlers on a pair.  Or just 1 of them

I like the 1% of the series kind of.. its a unique twist.. but I think you should get more than just 1 point more for shooting a 700 vs a 600

Peterson point system works very well with singles league. You bowl againist everyone in the league every week.

For every 50 pins you knock down with handicap, you get 1 point.  Example for a 3 game series would be if your handicap is 20 a game and you shoot a 600 you'll get 12 points for the 600 and another point for the 1st 50 handicap pins. The 10 hanidicap pins left over would be a percentage so that weeks score would look like 13.2 points. The point standings would be in percentages and nobody sandbags because every pin counts. People like the scoring system because it rewards you for what you actually bowl, good or bad.

3 holes of fun!!

Your only bowling against 1 person. A bowls C and B bowls D

The 1% of your series idea fits well because of the amount of lower scores lol. I think there was 1 person last season to shoot 700, and hes a regional pro from Brooklyn
