Bowling "profile".
« on: March 19, 2004, 04:03:44 AM »
This site has been extremely helpful to me. However, I feel that it is extremely important to fill out their profiles, so that we all can determine what type of a bowler you are. I am a tweener with medium revs and I bowl about 15 to 17 mph. How can I take advice from a bowler that throws the ball like Jason Couch 400-480 revs/minute and throws the ball a million miles per hour. I need to take reviews and advice from bowlers that have a similar hand as mine. I feel it should almost be required to fill out your profile before you use this site. Thank you to all of the people who took the time to fill out their profiles. It has been a huge help!

Because if a bowler does a review correctly, a good part of it will be comparisons of the test ball to other known balls. This will give most people a good frame of reference for how one ball reacts compared to another. YOu may own one of the coamprison balls or you may have seen it in play locally to have a good idea how it reacts on local conditions.

While this information may not be the be-all and end-all of the test ball,it may not be THE data you need to finalize your decision but it will certainly help you along the way in making an educated guess-timate, which is all one can do.

Tenpin, I posted a topic on this on 3-11-04 and then was forced to lock it because people were making a joke out of it and of coarse (you guessed it) the ones doing this have "no profiles." Following is what I posted:

Some of us on this site have Profiles, but it seems more people don't than people that do. When people ask questions, more times than naught I look at their Profile because this information is needed in order to accurately answer that person't question, and I'm sure others do the same thing.

So, for you people that don't have a profile, why do you chose not to write one? After all, when you ask for help/advice, it helps other people to help you.

Charlest,
Not a great answer. I bowled with a gentleman who up until he died last month, was using a completely tracked out and dead old blue hammer that was like twenty years old and he could hook the entire lane with it. I assure you that I would only cover 4 to 8 boards with a ball that was that dead. So, using comparison equipment as a gauge does not work. I also bowl with a guy that can crank the ball better than Jason Couch and he has to "tame" his hand down to bowl on most shots other than a sports shot. nobody throws the ball the same. The difference is HUUUUUGE!!!!

Hey Brickguy,
God bless you! My dad is 77 and he still bowls with me in a mixed league on Sunday. I hope I am still bowling when I am your age. Keep up the good scoring. And I totally agree with the profiles. If they want to make fun, go right ahead. I use this site as a bowling aid, not a popularity contest.

Pishtosh,
You are only slightly a better bowler than I am by looking at your profile. I am a little older than you. I hope you do not have such an arrogant and closed minded approach to life as you seem to have in bowling. I wish you luck in life. The only good thing I can say is that you do live in my favorite state in the country. Maybe the other Texans can cut your ego down to size before Santa Ana stomps your butt at the Alamo! Good luck!

I'm not sure of my revs and what not, I haven't been around anywhere that can measure it, and I'm not sure of my speed, that's why mines not in my profile, but alot of people here have helped me alot, including phatdon and charlest, so you can get good help from guys that know they're way around this game. thanks again to all that have helped me out!

I think it can work because all you are looking for is similarities.
IF couch is testing ball x drilled with x pattern, and compares it to ball y
drilled with x pattern, and say say ball x hooks more, then if you have ball y drilled with y layout, then ball x should give you a similar increase when drilled with layout y.

I think that come out right

We have been trying to get everone to use profile for a long time (at least as long as I have been on here).  DOn't know if will ever happen.

.......And you should be able to analyze that when you do comparisons...there are far too many variables to be looked at ....

Charlest, not a good answer...........HHA !! Are you kidding me,....I agree with PhatDon....he's forgot more about bowling than most of us will EVER know!

tenpinitis,

I think you could use a little more detail in your profile.  It's a little bit vague as is.

Thank you for all who have answered. I did not mean to make anyone angry. I was simply suggesting that the profiles would be a little more help. I do not understand people saying "if you do not like what you are hearing, then go somewhere else". All or most of the information is helpful. I was just suggesting that it would be more helpful knowing who you are talking to. I am not quite sure I understand all of the venom being spewed. I was not trying to insult anyone, except for maybe Pishtosh, who told me I was ignorant. Some people on this site are equipment experts. Some people are duffers. Some people do not know what they are talking about. It is just nice to know what kind of expertise someone has before you take any of his or her advice on equipment.

Jeff,
You are probably correct about Charlest. I do not know him, but I did not agree with his answer. That does not mean I am disrespecting his bowling skills.

Phatdon,
I would never disrespect someone who serves our great nation. God bless you and all of you that protect our great freedoms (like bowling) here in the United States. Without people like you, forums like this would not exist.

I am one of the most ego-less people that you will ever meet. If you had bad experiences with other New Yorkers, shame on them. I am not a one house wonder. I know many of them. I bowl in two other houses that I have not listed. I just mainly bowl at Rockville Centre.

I was  not being disrespectful to Charlest, I just did not agree with his answer.

Some of the young guys who have answered have taken an attacking approach. I was simply making an observation, not trying to anger anyone. "If you don't like the information go elsewhere"? That is a ridiculous response. Some of you are extremely knowledgable about bowling. I was just trying to find out which ones were.

And by the way you are correct. If I do not see a profile I have to take the information with a grain of salt. I was just pointing out that some of those people that I am ignoring have alot to bring to the table. I just want to know who?

The only one I insulted was Pishtosh. I was only making an observation and the young man called me ignorant. I assure you that I am not ignorant and I do not appreciate being called ignorant.

I still do not understand why anyone would answer the way he did. If this subject upsets him so much, what will he do with a life crisis?

And I was not joking about loving Texas. I assume being military that you are either from there or have been stationed there.

Now am I really that bad? And I am also from New York!
