Do PBA bowlers have 'other jobs'?
« on: April 18, 2009, 10:10:16 AM »
Was wondering about this today. I don't mean Walter Ray and the rest of the huge money maker guys, but Mike Machuga, Robert Smith.. so on. Are their lives dedicated to bowling, or do they also work to generate extra income when they don't cash?

A lot of them work in or own bowling alleys or pro shops.  Steve Jaros owns a pro shop in the Chicago area while Doug Kent has two (I believe) bowling alleys in upstate NY.  Some give clinics and lessons during their time off from the big tour.  A lot of them also bowl regional tournaments while the national tour is off for the summer.  The ones on a company's staff probably do some traveling clinics and shows as part of their contract with their ball sponsor.

I know a few years ago Brad Angelo was doing clinics during the off season. I am not for sure if he still is or not. Like Shelly said some own or work in bowling centers. Some own pro shops. I have a friend that is on Brunswicks amatuer staff and he has told me about some of the things the Brunswick guys have to do for different shows.
