Vegas ball inspectors?

A guy came in with a ball that we did not drill, but it was damaged at our center so we resurfaced it.  He goes to Vegas and bowls a tournament (he would say which one) and they reject his ball saying that it was too small.  He brings it in, we pull out the go and no-go rings and find no such problem.  Do these tournaments actually check for that, the usually don't at nationals?  Or is this guys just trying to scam a free ball?

As far as I know, they only check surface hardness and weight, none of my customers coming back from nationals has every told me they still did that, and as far as the last time one of us (owners of the comapny) have gone, they didnt check it.

Probably trying to scam you, they find new and exciting ways to do that.

One such story, if you allow me to share this, a lady baked her ball in the oven and proceeded to crack the entire coverstock.  Then she came in and tried to get it replaced by us.  Talk about crazy.

As far as I know, checked with USBC, there are no rules on low limit on ball size, only manufacturing specification, 8.5-8.59", nothing about ball in competition.

Just below the specifications at manufacture, the USBC equipment specification indicates that a ball may not be less than 8.5" in diameter, with no qualification, meaning this applies at all times.

What tournaments are you referring to? The TAT and High Roller? I know they do not check anything on bowling balls. I believe if someone were to question a ball and it being legal, they would check as they do say they go by USBC rules. But they do not do checks ahead of time.

If you are talking about any other tournament in Vegas, living in Vegas I am pretty sure no one does any sort of ball check in.

While I mentioned that those specifications were only manufacturing specifications, that's the only specs that we govern.  As you correctly stated, a ball may very well fall under the 8.5 inch diameter after one or more resurfaces.  This does not however preclude a bowler from using the ball in competition, as the diameter spec is only for the manufacturers.

Thanks for answering the question, I think I laid the question wrong.
Since
the manufacturer size limit is 8.5-8.59, meaning there will be balls right at 8.5 or very close to 8.5 the low limit.  And when I say after drilled actually I am saying a ball is being used which can lead to possible resurface, I am sure just a couple times the ball will be smaller than 8.5, the 8.5-8.59 is only the manufacturing limit.  And I don't see any rule covering this part for bowling balls in competition.  Or in this case when there is no rules falls into the manufacturing specification?

The Diameter of a bowling ball is a manufacturing spec only.  The manufacturing limits for the diameter of a ball must fall between 8.5 and 8.595 inches.  The diameter of the ball won't change just from drilling the ball.  Again, this is only a manufacturing specification and can be found in the Specification Manual on page 13 -15:

Hi, I cannot find it in the rule book or I just missed it.  What is the minimum diameter or circumference of a ball after drilled?

From many topics ago....  balls that have been resurfaced until all of the manufactures engraving is gone are still legal if a serial no. is re-engraved.
