North Carolina
« on: July 25, 2007, 10:03:37 AM »
Greetings from North Carolina!  Before some one says this is in the wrong place, there will be plenty of bowling tales as The Gathering begins.

In case anyone cares, I arrived safe and sound from LAX by way of Phoenix and Raleigh Durham to Winston Salem.  I plan on making my appearance at Creekside Lanes tomorrow.

As a teammate of mine say every Monday night - "Let the Games Begin!"

For all traveling any distance, safe travels and see you soon!

For those unable to attend, regular updates will be posted!

Leftys are always welcome  Ron always has his camera ready for this group!  You just never know when one of us might just be coachable, or give him something interesting to shoot

Actally he told me I'd be a 200 average bowler before I leave Monday.  He shot some video today, but I didn't get the chance to talk with him about it.

For the bragging rights tournament, there will be 3 different patterns.  Ron told me one of them will be a 35' pattern (he could have been messing with me because I told him the 35' pattern in the winter of my sport league killed me). Another will probably be the house shot, and I don't know what the last one will be.  Usually we are not told what lanes have what pattern.  We bowl 2 games on each pattern.  He usually sets up 2 sets of the three patterns so we are spread out a bit, though this year we are a little smaller than last so it may just be 3 pair.

Bowling before the tourney will on be the house shot.  Once the patterns are put out noone bowls on the lanes until the tourney.  We get about 10 minutes of practice.  Most people test out the three patterns dring that time.

The bragging rights tournament will be two games on each pattern - house, Cheetah, and Reno.  I'm anxious to see Cheetah at a different house.  At my PBA league in High Point, we don't see the high friction outside of 3.  I'll also see how good the Reno approximation is since we were there last month.

Gaaaah!!!  If I had only seen logged in Yesterday to see this topic.  I live only 3 minutes from Creekside, and practice there every Tuesday.  If I had known, I could have come by and finally put some faces to the names.  Hope everyone had fun tho....
The Gathering 2014 is near.  July 25-27 in Winston Salem, NC @ Creekside lanes.

The Bragging Rights Tournament was a blast.  It was really funny I shot my 2nd best score on the "R" Shot.  I wouldn't let any one call it the R_ _ O shot

With handicap, I actually went to the plus - +36 or 1036 for 5.  We eliminated one game so we could get to dinner at a reasonable time and those playing pool or poker would have time to play.  My pair was a_akK57, his friend Andrew (yes Andy does hace a friend ), Alakazam, and his wife, JoAnn.  We had 34 participants in the tourney and Deadeye won the bragging rights T-Shirt and Lane #1 bowling Ball.

My personal scores were Cheetah 1 - 149, House 1 - 166, "R" 175, Cheetah 2 - 168, and House 2 - 178 = 836  (I am going by memory, so I may be off a bit on some, but I am sure of game 1, 3, and 5 and close on 2 & 4)  My most memorabel shot was leaving the Greek Church 4-6-7-8-10 and converting it.  I intented to at least cover the 4-7-8 and hoped to get maybe the 10, was I surprised when the ten fell into the 6

I was told the head count was 47 this year.  It has been outstandint, though Joe Falco we missed your uplifting spirti and endless energy. Darold and Cheri your presence has been missed even more this year than last. Dr Joe, MMike1053, Lucky Lefty, JohnP, and anyone I might have left out that has attended int he past, we missed you.  If anyone has heard from BigWillyStyle, let us know, he has gone MIA and his humor and outgoing personality is deeply missed.  All of you are our family and we enjoy meeting up annually.

This year has been especially sweet.  I come and feel like I am coming home to some very special people.  The Creekside Staff are so welcoming and friendly, Ron and Karen are the best hosts anyone could imagine.  Geoff and Letricia are generous in opening their home to us for poker, pool, and just plain a good time.  We have been joined by 2 gentlemen who came from Italy to be coached by Ron.  They have been so much fun to have with us, Pebo (sp?) from Sicily and Arti from Rome.  What wonderful people.

Tomorrow will be the last day for those of us unwilling to see it all end.  Some have already gone on their way and I wish them a safe trip to wherever they call home.

Mumzie -
Whenever we gather, we know it is only a small part of the family and those not here in person, are here in spirit.

Each year this just gets better and better, and it gets harder and harder to say good-bye.  I firmly believe, as Ron has said a few times during The Gathering, "Bowlers are the best people in the world."

I'd like to say "Thanks" for the nice comments.

It's nice to be thought of!

I just must say....This year...life is "different".

From the high of having my 12 year old son with me 2 years ago.
What a thrill for me(He's bowling great by the way...at least when I'm around to be thumped!).

To this year not having him up to come on this trip.

I missed all; and almost made a day trip out of it!  The differentness of this year ended up precluded it!

To a next year that brings me to the gathering.

REgards,

Luckylefty
