Vegas National shot in our center
« on: March 16, 2009, 03:37:46 AM »
Starting this Sunday our center set aside 4 lanes and put down the Vegas Nationals shot.  From reading some posts of where the shot is ( around 15 out no further than 10-8) I started from that reference point.  I kinda siked myself out, missing a few spares.  First game was 172.  Three game series was 571.  I had heard that outside of 8 was out of bounds but this guy and his teenage son were bowling next to me playing around 6 to 4 and 8 to 5.  The ball was coming back just fine.  They weren't scoring above 200 but yet their balls were coming back when I thought it was suppose to be out of bounds?!

So I move and bowl from my "regular" house shot of 10 out to 6. The next 3 games I shoot 719. The lanes were playing tighter than regular house shot but why is it there was no out of bounds at the 8 board?  It seemed to be more like the 4 board where the out of bounds was.  If the oiling machine is set up the same way, why didn't I have the same tight shot that is at Cashman?  Doesn't really help me out practicing on this shot if it is not the same as the shot in Cashman.

Oh and this is kinda funny and typical.  After about 4 games, the guy and his son moved over to a lane that had the wall of china shot.  I guess they preferred the inflated games the spray and pray shot allows them to get.

You've gotta remember that very important word that always comes back in bowling, no matter what the situation is really... Topography.  No two lanes are going to play the same shot the exact same way.  Especially since Cashman is laying out the nationals shot and only the nationals shot.

Plus, to replicate exact lane oiling, stripping, conditioning, etc. is pretty close to impossible.  Give yourself an idea of what to play on it, but don't develop a set game plan, that's just prepping yourself a noose if you do something like that.

IMO, if you just run four lanes once with a shot, the machine doesn't remove all of the underlying pattern and replace it with the new pattern.  So the THS shows up, though not as distinctly as normal.  To get the true shot they might have to run each of the four lanes a half dozen times or so, stripping each time.  Could be wrong on this, but I don't think so.  --  JohnP

Exactly, plus factor in the Cashman center is using Pro Lane surface which might be a harder surface than the synthetics at your center. Also keep in mind that if you playing straighter outside you might be able to get a little ball reaction, it's that you can't swing the ball to that zone from left of 10-12, it's just not going to recover for the average player.  At the nationals I'm not sure 8-5 would recover on the fresh unless you had a lot of hand.
