Saw some old threads on this as a replacement for magic carpet tape. Although I have never used magic carpet, I have a surplus of velcro laying around. My goal is to hopefully cover up some of my swelling and shrinking issues. Currently using a golf glove with thumb tape on it to get a clean release and cover up those issues, it is wearing out quickly. Thoughts on the velcro? Smooth velcro of course

Make sure you use the "hook" side against your skin... :o
...then send us pictures of your thumb afterwards. ;D
Just curious, any reason to not use hada patch?

The thumb holes are already larger and from what I read, the velcro helps absorb the thumb size fluctuations. I figure I will use the hada also

I have one ball that I use velcro in the thumbhole. It gives me a slower thumb release as it creates friction on my thumb pad. I am talking about the hook side.(not for the back of the thumb) I generally use the fabric/wool side just to create a firmer grip in the hole. I was doing this long before Magic Carpet ever came out!
When I first started bowling, most of my balls had velcro in them....then slowly I began replacing those pads with the rubber tape of variable thicknesses. Both work well for me

I put a piece in a ball last night. Didn't make it to go practice so my first shot will be at league tonight. It didn't feel too bad. I'm a little worried about rug burn on the back of my thumb, but that is what hada is for. Besides, the hada speeds up my release.

Hada also masks bad thumb hole fit and knuckling. :)

I've used MC tape for many years and had issues when I bowled more than 20 games a week. With a very snug thumb fit and the friction between my thumb and the MC tape, it roughened up my skin on the back of the thumb and darkened it. Not a callous.
Depending on the texture and thickness of you skin behind the thumb, velcro can cause irritation or open up your skin. Especially if you have the wrong pitch/size/thumb fit. I put MC tape on a very old turbo x which had reverse in the thumb and I ended up with a type of road rash on my thumb lol.... just take it slow is what I'm trying to say.... good luck.
I still use MC tape and my thumb can handle it now, only swelling happens quicker with MC tape when I bowl more games/blocks.

I actually changed the pitches in my thumb on the last two balls had drilled. Don't know what the pso changed then to, but I said I want to do something different. Changed pso too for that matter because this one was closer and wanted to try him. I love how the ball comes off my hand. I don't really throw the rest of my stuff anymore.
But back to the velcro. I bowled three games of league with hada patch on my thumb. Wanted to protect the back of my thumb and let the velcro break in a little before throwing without it. Scores were decent considering my head wasn't in the game. I absolutely loved the fit. Threw a game after league without the hada and no wearing on my thumb
