Sting is "stronger"...it has a stronger coverstock.
Venom would give you a bigger backend.  Think of a Venom as a polished Bite with more flip.

What do you mean stronger? You say the venom has more backend. So how is the venom stronger?

There are two kinds of hook:  Hook in oil and Hook on the dry.  The Sting has a more aggressive coverstock and as such will hook more in the oil.  A Venom has a slightly weaker coverstock and is polish...so it will slide more in the oil and hook harder off the dry on the backend.

Hook really is a giant physics problem...when and where the ball releases energy.

That is interesting. My Wife has a venom and she does not have much hand in the ball. but she gets that balll to hook A LOT. We bowled on medium conditions last night and she was lights out. Me. My ball died on the backend.

The Venom is definitely one of my biggest hooking balls on medium conditions.  It isn't a particularily "strong" ball, it just makes a very pronounced change in direction at the end of the pattern.  Though if there's too much oil, it'll skid past the breakpoint.

If I'm looking for angularity, I go with my Venom.

I throw my JIGSAW for this first game (sometimes second) when I start leaving pocket 10 pins I then switch over to my VENOM (OOB with lite polish) and then by the 3rd game I switch over to my BLACK WIDOW PEARL (OOB with lite polish)

this system has been money for me so far this particular season. The VENOM is much longer then my JIGSAW with a very strong move on the backend when it hits the dryer conditions...

I now throw Hammer and LaneMasters gear, the best stuff around!

Now throwing pretty much all flavors...

If your ball died on the back end most likely cause is that it was too strong for the amount of oil you were encountering.  That causes it to roll too early, then "break out" or "burn up" (go straight).  You needed more speed, less revs, or a weaker coverstock/core/layout combination.  --  JohnP
