Venting your anger
« on: February 18, 2005, 07:41:19 AM »
Hey Guys! Ok...what do you guys do when everything seems
to go wrong on your bowling night.  Example, Missed spares,
no carry, throwing your ball wrong....etc. What do you guys
do to vent your anger?  Like, kick ball returns, break pencils
and so on.  Just curious.  Thanks......

I think of the martini waiting at home for me.

I swear a lot.  I've also been known to headbutt the scoring table.

Well I used to kick the return, throw my towel and rosin bag, and scream at myself or the ball or the lane, etc. etc. I realized all that was doing was throwing me off and making my anger worse. So...now when I get mad I sit down and take this ball I have and grip the **** out of it. Grind my teeth a little and do some heavy breathing. Normally I'm still mad at whatever, but this gets me re-focused so at least I can go up there next shot with some concentration.
I am getting better at holding it back though, just got to make sure it doesn't get to your head.

Being a teacher, I always bring work to correct just in case.  Grading papers helps me not get too upset.  Some of their papers can be quite comical to read, which can change the mood.

I keep it to myself in that I never lash out at teammates, opponents, bowling alley employees or loved ones. I might smack my hand or hit my thigh after a bad shot, but if the mistakes keep piling up I tend to want to sit in the "Pouter's Chair" (the first seat next to the approach) and try to focus on my game.
It also helps that my teammates and I play poker with naked lady cards while we're bowling, so I can always find something else to focus on besides the lanes!

i sit and try to re-focus. its useless to do stupid stuff.

a teamamte i have now will handily throw 32-34 MPH balls at single pins after a good solid hit. he is the only person i know of who has genuinely broken a pin: the head of the pin popped off split from the base to the neck, like a broken baseball bat.

i really don't get very angry when im bowling bad but its when my spare game is bad when i get pissed, i usually bounce it like a basket ball if i really am having ruff time, or music usually is a good mood changer

I cuss. I have a horribly foul mouth as it is, let alone when I'm mad. I am way too hard on myself though. I act like I should shoot 600 every time out. (only been bowling a year, and I'm really not good lol)

Well...I have been known to fire my rosin bag about 20 lanes down, but that hasn't occurred for a least a couple of years.
