Title: Vernon Hills Pro-Am question
Post by: TheMan14 on November 02, 2006, 12:00:29 PM
I am going to my first pro-am in Vernon Hills. Does anybody know whether the shot will be the pba shot (Scorpion I think that week) or a house shot?

If Vernon Hills works like the pro-am here in Detroit (Taylor), the times I've bowled have been on Taylor Lanes' house shot.

You have to specifically sign up to bowl on the PBA patterns for the pro-am and it's held one night during the week.

Hope this helps

They traditionally will put out the house shot as to not deter people from bowling the Pro-Am.

That's interesting.  I was always under the assumption that the pro ams took place on the PBA shot as well.

I've heard some people talk about how they tore up the Pro Am's before, and now I know why lol

Vernon Hills put out the PBA shot last year.

All the PRO-AMs that I hav ebeen in, were house shots and the Pro's just go out and have fun. They are signing autographs and talking with people. They are there to have fun like anyone else. So go in there and HAVE FUN. Are they offering a new ball for like 50 bucks? All the ones that I entered would offer a ball really cheap and then there was a ball and bag combo. Just wondering...

They are offering the PBA Inferno for $169, which includes everything else that you get.

This information is correct, last year they actually announced what pattern it was before practice started. This year the last I heard, it will yet again be a PBA pattern. I am looking forward to this pro-am. Not for the ball but for the experience.

Hmmm...is it too late to sign up for the Pro-Am at VH?  I'm thinking about giving it a try!

bowlallthetime and BrunsMike are correct.  Last year the pro-ams were held on the PBA Scorpion pattern.

Before the pro-am on Saturday, the youth travel league was playing at Hawthorn.  They put out the Scorpion pattern for the youth bowlers and had a pro on each pair of lanes with them as they bowled their league.  I thought that was a very cool thing to do.  I think the youth bowlers enjoyed that quite a bit.

This year (so far), there is no official word on whether the Scorpion pattern  or the house shot will be used for the pro-ams.  I suspect it will be the Scorpion, but I don't know.  I checked with center personnel, and they do not know, either.

Splendorlex - there are still openings on the pro-am squads, as far as I know.  Just call the center at 847-367-1600 for more information.  The times are:

Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 7:00 PM
Saturday, Nov. 25 at 4:00 and 7:00 PM

BOWL119 - the standard pro-am package is $69 for adults ($49 for juniors), which includes one spectator ticket, a pro-am certificate, and a PBA tour program.  For an additional $100, a Brunswick PBA Inferno (undrilled) is included.

SGC300 - another reason that people destroy the pro-ams is that they are usually 9-pin no tap.

Well, I think I'll see if I can get in.    Is the PBA Inferno a Scorchin?  Though the last thing I need is a new ball anyway.

Also, do you plan on bowling it, Rick?  I'll probably try to get on the Saturday night squad.

Yes, this years PBA Inferno is a Scorchin

Splendorlex,
I don't plan on bowling this year's pro-am.  I have several other commitments that will prevent me from doing so.

Regarding the pro-am ball, here is how it is described in the PBA pro-am flyers:

Brunswick PBA Inferno (tm) Bowling Ball ($250 value)
  - Hook Potential:  160
  - Coverstock:  Activator Max
  - Ball Finish:  Dull 600 Grit

To me, that confirms what has already been said - it's a Scorchin' Inferno.

Can anyone describe what to expect out of the Scorpion pattern, if that is what they put out?

Never bowled a PRO-AM that was a NO-TAP. Is that something new that they are doing. Last one that I bowled in was about 4 years ago.

Well the price of the balls has gone up since then, but understandable since ball prices have gone up in general. But I hope that you have fun...

Most Pro-ams that ive seen have all been 9 pin no tap events. Unlike the USBC Masters which is regular format.

If you bowled on the same shot as the pros and it was 3 regular games, I think they would be more popular.  Sadly, many are house shots and either no-tap or 3-6-9 (automatically get strikes in those frames each game).
