One of the BR members gave me his spinner to see if I can figure out the problem and hopefully try to fix it.

Well, I know what the problem is and I don't have the tools strong enough to drill right through the bearing shaft. Or don't have anymore ideas to lock these two pieces together.

The bowl and the bearing shaft is molded together. There's no way to take it apart. So I was trying to drill through the "neck", the shaft between the bowl and base. Inside the hard mold is the bearing shaft. This is where the prolem is located. The bowl and the metal bearing shaft are molded together and are not binding or bonded together anymore. So when the motor is on, you can hold the bowl to stop it from spinning. Everything on this spinner works fine.

Anyway, I tried drilling a self tapping screw, but that didn't work. I took a steel drill bit to make a pilot hole, but with steel and a rounded surface it was difficult to do so. I don't have anyother tools.

I can try making 4 holes in each side and make a divot in the steel shaft. Then use epoxy......do you think this will hold?

I need ideas to lock this two parts together....thanks.

I'll just use duck tape and a C clamp and call it a day...

Don't forget the chewing gum. It never works without that.

I would contact the company who makes Vertex. I forgot what his name is. I have had my Vertex Spinner for at least 15 years and it is still going strong. The guy makes the spinner is very knowledgeable and friendly.

I emailed them and got Alex Biehl to email me back. He just suggested to drill and add a set screw, never mentioned about having it shipped to be repaired. Here's is what he said:

"You can try drilling a small hole where the bowl connects to the bearing shaft and insert a set screw. The bearing was molded into the base and cannot be removed."

How much for the replacement part ?
If it was free a few dollars for the right part seems like a cheap solution.

No replacement part. unless they sell the bowl and the base assembly??, but these parts are molded. I emailed to see if they had replacement parts, but after the email I got back, I assume there are no replacement parts.

If it was mine. I would try the set screw idea. But also drill a small indentation where the set screw hits the shaft. This will help it so the bowl doesn't spin on the shaft.

the hard part was to make that indentation in my first go around. not the right tools and the steel is freakn hard, plus rounded.....I think I can try using a knurl point set screw to penatrate the shaft a bit to hold. Drilling all the through is more work one idea that's off the list....

but, I'll wait to see what some guys come up with after they talk to vertex....
