I think in most cases over the years "would be coaches" witnessed early timing which seemed to make the shoulder drop more than usual and the ball to be "tugged" inside the target. These "would be coaches" confused the motion of an early timed delivery pulling the shoulder down and the normal drop of the shoulder to allow the ball to meet the lane smoothly. All this is a fancy way to say that there is nothing wrong with a moderately dropped shoulder but there is something wrong with early timing.
