Pros work the inside of the ball so do amateurs
« on: February 12, 2009, 06:06:51 AM »
I keep hearing all this hype about working the inside of the ball how the pros do and how us league amateurs work the outside of the ball. I looked at the pictures that were posted on this site to see what they were talking about I was like huh so then I watch a couple vids of myself in slow motion and I see that I work the inside of the ball then I go to my league and watch tons of other people bowl and anybody who is even half a bowler does the same thing Yes people that average 150 up to 200 may not but any descent bowler that averages above 200 seems to work the inside of the ball and not the outside.

WRW does a pretty good job of working the outside of the ball.

go onto you tube and type in walter ray williams slow motion release.  Some guy posted a lot of great slow motion vids of some of the PBA players.  Tommy Jones, Chris Barnes, WRW, Mika.  Walter Ray obviously releases the ball past his ankle.

Like i've always said, do what works!

Yeah I guess your right if you take the average of league bowlers they dont but any good bowler or most good bowlers do. Yes I believe I work the inside of the ball all the way through but I do have a habit of turning it early.

Looks to me like Walter uses the outside of the ball, even Mika gets more inside than he does.  Watch the Tommy Jones video, now that is using the inside of the ball!

What I find interesting is that despite hearing lots of guys saying you should cup your wrist and keep it that way throughout your swing, these videos don't show that.  Most of these guys are at the equator of the ball, if not above it at times during the swing.  Most get back under at the release point, but not that far under like I see some guys try to do.

Great videos!
