Mexico City Pattern
« on: July 25, 2011, 11:02:56 PM »
Hello all,

I am going to bowling on this pattern tonight for the first time. I have looked at some of the lane topography for this pattern and it looks like it will be a flood.

What should I expect this pattern to play like? Does the pattern hold consistent normally or will it see a fast breakdown?

I know it depends on the bowlers on my pair, but I am just unsure of how this will play generally over the course of the night.

I'm in the process of trying to find out where I fit in the bowling world. I do not know my tech specs of my game, but it's all a learning process.

I bowled on this pattern a few weeks ago in my Team USA league, and I will be on it again this week. It's a flood, yes. My execution was awful on it for three games, and finally in the 4th and final game I started throwing it well, but lost the pocket because the left lane broke down totally different than the right lane (I had to play them 10 boards apart in the 10th frame of the last game!). It seemed like surface worked well on this pattern to a degree, more so than the London or Paris pattern. But people who tried to throw stuff sanded super dull still ran into problems.

Yeah. I planned on bringing my Swagga (polished - I can hit it with some surface), Wicked Seige, and Cruel just in case. My buddy asked me to sub for him. I was looking for videos on YouTube about how to play the pattern because I remember seeing videos for the PBA animal patterns.

It played like an even tighter version of the Shark for me. Less friction in the midlane.

I used a pin down Seismic Epicenter at 2000abralon and had a nice look inside.  Was playing about 18 at the arrows, and 12 at the breakpoint.  This is by far my favorite pattern in this sports shot league.  The short patterns were sideways city for me and the lightly oiled medium patterns broke down too fast but was able to be consistent throwing the red/yellow Hook.

The Mexico City pattern wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.  We bowl on Tokyo, Paris and London the next few weeks, than some Kegel patterns.  Definitely throw something with some surface on it.

So the results was throwing a lightly polished Swagga.

First set went 215, 192 going playing 17 to 13.

Second set I completely dominated the pair. The backend opened up a bit. I was playing 24-15. Shot 244, 277.

Won all 4 of my points, but our team went 10-10 overall. Glad my buddy called me to sub.

I prebowled on this pattern for my Thursday singles league yesterday since I'll be out of town that night. 198-204-164-253. Missed back-to-back easy spares the first game, and missed one easy spare the 3rd game. I had absolutely no mistake room the first few games, throwing a pin down 4x4 Dimension at 1000 abralon about 15 to 12, then trying a pin up 5x4 Nano at 2000. By the 3rd game, I had over-under city because of hooking heads, and moving left somehow made it worse. Finally in the 4th frame of the last game, I switched to a lightly polished pin down 5.5x3 Cell and moved back to where I started and fired off 8 in a row. But that was only because I executed really well. I still had no real mistake room. I had to hit an area downlane about 1.5 boards wide. I am not a fan of these long oil patterns. They just really punish people like me who can't hook it.

My rev rate is not that high and my tilt is not that extreme, but I am very accurate.

I have a few vids on YouTube. I believe my most recent vid is for the Wicked Seige that BrunsNick sent me.
