Next new ball. Visionary or Lanemasters?
« on: January 16, 2010, 04:58:07 AM »
I'm looking into trying something new and would like some input from my fellow BR members. Anyone try both brands? What are some of the strength's of both companies. I've seen only 1 or 2 people using these brands balls in my area so I don't have any first hand looks at these products.

For Lanemasters, the Black Pearl reactive has caught my eye as a benchmark ball. I like the symmetrical cores they offer.

For Visionary, I was looking into one of the balls in the New Breed line.

Any info would be great. If you're tried both, even better. Thanks!

I have only tried one Visionary and did not match up to the drilling. Will eventually try them again. As for LM, I fedel there is no better company. I have tried almost every other and once I got a BPR, I was hooked, and am going all LM/L with some 900/AMF thrown in.

They use the best materials for their covers you can get, they last a long time, carry is above other companies I have tried on a consistent basis, while some of them being very sgtrong at the break point they are still very controllable.

I am not going to ramble on, I will just say. IF you are considering trying them you should definitly do it, I will let the performance speak for itself.

Would like to mention that if you are going to try them I suggest trying the new Extreme Damage, I don't have one yet, but I have heard awesome things about it. The BPR is hard to find NIB, for some reason they didn't produce alot of which I believe is one of the best balls their is. You may be able to get them through LM, I do not know. Good luck

From a durability stand point they both stand above the rest being nearly the same in that department.

I used quite a few older LM equipment a couple of years ago, Yeah Baby, AP1, AP2, MP (my fave of all LM) Kong just to name a few.  I haven't used any of the new lines.

Now I am using Visionary again, went back to what I had over seven years ago and couldn't be happier.  I'm using the Gladiator pearl, Crimson Ex, Green Gargoyle, and Centaur for my house leagues.

To me a big difference between LM and VBP is the hitting power, LM equipment hits so hard I left a lot of back row pins.  With my VBP equipment at times the hits may appear weak or flat but all 10 are falling down.  Now that I have my VBP equipment set up I have been bowling better than ever with that as well.

I feel both companies can cover a wide range of reaction shapes but to me what I've used most was rolly and controllable.  Obviously cover prep and drilling can alter the reaction to achieve what you're looking for.

Why I went back to VBP, I can see when it's time to adjust sooner, I know what to expect out of each ball, and their arsenal isn't over loaded with different market lines over lapping new releases.  (like LM too)

Thrown them both as A_P_K has and they both have a long lasting cover.  Visionary uses no filler.

Minor correction-
Both Visionary and Lanemasters use filler on some balls. Fortunately, both know how to use filler and it does not change their hitting or carrying power. My Gladiator Pearl and my Sure Strike both attest to that fact.

LM/L: Terminator Rebellion is their prime benchmark ball.
Vis: Gladiator Solid is probably their prime benchmark ball,

I''ve found the Vis Gladiator Pearl to have a strong-ish backend on medium-light to medium oil, while never NOT being a control ball.

The LM Sure Strike is their best pearl overall, besides having filler. If anything it actually hits harder than their full coverstock ball, such as the Balck Pearl Reactive. Both myself and high average friend found that ball problematic at best. I''m sort of surprised at some people find it strong enough. It is possible we never used it on enough oil.

There is not a better value series of balls than the Visionary Ogre series. It handles every oil amount from medium-light to full heavy oil, with inexpensive balls, that you ignore at your own risk.  The ogre series is better than the Vibe or the Avalanche series by a wide margin. I have used all 3 and I speak fromexperience.

You must throw one full coverstock Lanemasters ball to fully appreciate their utility and power.  If drilled correctly for your release and used on the correct oil amount, you will be a convert. It''s hard to understate that premise.

Have never tried LM but Visionary balls are quite good. Covers are very durable and easy to tweak. Most offer good control not a lot of over reaction. Try the New Breed Pearl I think you'll like it. My fave right now is the Ogre SS. Good Luck!

i am assuming you and your friend are saying you had troubles with the BPR. I can see this, 1 that cover is really strong, 2 that core flares ALOT. I have a pin above bridge 6x4 drill on mine and it still flares 5+ inches, and needs medium oil minimum to work properly. When used on to light of oil, it will let you know by weak 10's and in some cases looking as though it is not strong enough and not hooking very much. But when used on the right amount of oil it is a devastating ball. I know that if I had this ball drilled 5 or less to PAP it would not work very well for me, to much flare on to strong a cover. That could have been your guys problem.

Bowlers Journal rated this ball as good on medium-heavy oil as its home territory.

I can't wait to use it on some PBA patterns this summer, this ball with its control and power should be great on those patterns.
