Very successful coach was telling stories the other day. I felt like a kid during story time. He explained that he was giving a lesson where he recorded a student's approach for analysis. When the coach and student watched the video together, the student said "that's not me!". The coach calmly explained that this was video from earlier, but the student emphatically disagreed again. So coach said that the person in the video is wearing your shirt, pants, shoes, has the same hair, and is throwing the same ball. Sure does look like you. Student still disagreed. Lesson done! The coach learned that FEEL can be way different than REAL.
I can recall the first time sitting down with a coach for video analysis thinking that I didn't feel some of the problems I was seeing.
How many of you use video as a valuable coaching tool? I like using a tablet to compare what I just did (feel) to what the video shows (real). Then draw lines and get degrees of tilt measured.
