One ball only suggestion, plus a spare ball
« on: December 08, 2004, 08:30:25 PM »
Hi!

Due to injury and lack of practice, and on the advice of a few good bowlers in my area, I have decided to drop down a pound in ball weight for the next 3-6 months, just to build up my strength again.

I am looking for a ball that will handle anything from mid-light, to heavy oil, and I’m not a fan of altering ball surface.  Also this will be the ball that I’ll use in league as well as in competition.

I was going to get a Lane 1 Uranium pearl, but my pro shop has just informed me that they don’t have any 13lb (yes, I’m a light weight!) in this country (United Kingdom), so, what ball will do it all for me?

Many thanks!

ps: Bowler info: Can vary my ball speed, usually mid-high, ball track medium, can play anywhere between 1st to 4th arrow.

COuld be a tricky one, as there really isn't one ball you can use on everything and still get a good reaction on them all. I think you are really best off looking for some kind of particle pearl, and flattening out your release on dry, and pointing if needed on heavier oil. As for which one, I think it depends on which company you prefer. My only other suggestion would be a Track Rule, as it seems quite an adaptable ball with a lot of movement, but it might be too much for lighter oil conditions.

They don't have any 13# Uraniums,  Well they order there balls from lane#1 like everyone else don't they why can't they just order you a 13# Uranium.  I can get you one but you would have to pay shipping.  If you absolutely can't get one maybe you should think about an Inferno at least your getting the same coverstock which is very adjustable and your still getting a good core.

I should just quit bowling, oh wait I already tried that.

JPRLane1,

It's hard to get an exotic ball here in the U.K. I guess (for example, I don't think there is a distributor for MoRich in UK, am I right Reality Check?).  They can get me a 14lb no problem, but not 13lb.

I was hoping that a Lane 1 core would be able to compensate the loss of hitting power due to the reduction of weight, but I guess now I have to look elsewhere.

Thanks

I would suggert a Columbia300 Throttle/UP or a Columbia300 Flipside Wired (since I doubt you can get a Visionary Violet Gargoyle). Just my $0.02, take it for what it's worth

CharlieBrown -- I'm pretty sure Lane 1 doesn't make any balls less than 14 lbs.  Whatever ball you select, check to be sure it has the core you want.  Several manufacturers use different cores for their lighter weight balls, even going to pancake cores.  --  JohnP

Yes I've noticed that too.  I was also thinking about getting a Track Xception, only to find out that a 13lb does not have Morpheus Rev-Lever core.

BTW on Lane 1 website it says it does 13 lb Uranium pearl......... oh well, try and locate one...

On edit, BigWillyStyle

we CAN get Violet Gargoyle in U.K., looks like a cool ball, I'll do some research! Thanks
