Viper pattern
« on: May 19, 2009, 04:51:43 AM »
My first week bowling the Viper pattern was May 12th. I had a very embarrassing start to the league by averaging a 161. I tried playing up 7 to 5 but just wasn't comfortable so I moved around to different parts of the lane. Had lots of splits and washouts. On a positive note, I won one game and series.  Earning 2 of 4 points.

I decide to tackle the lanes as suggested by PBA reference sheets on different patterns.
I played up 7 to 5. Shoot 215 first game.  Line was still holding till end of second game, end up shooting 221. Change balls to polished ball.  Still too much for that line.  I move deeper but too much over/under.  So I pull out an older polished Rhino pro. Play same line and end up with 237 for a 673 series.
Wow almost 200 pins different from 1 week to the next.

We'll be tackling the Shark pattern the next two weeks.

Nice adjustments and way to bounce back on that pattern!

The PBA patterns sure make you think, that's for sure.  And while the recommended attacks for patterns are a great way to start, remember they aren't perfect.  Lane surface itself is a bigger dictator of how a pattern will play than the length/volume of oil.

Keep up the good shooting!  And have fun on Shark, it's not as hard as you think, I guarantee it.

the bowling center where i bowl at always lays down the patterns the day before to allow us to practice. i noticed on viper i could actually get in about 12-14 and play out to about ten. i think in practice during league tomorrow i will actually pipe something dull around 7 or 8 to give myself some room to miss left.
