Weight of ball on opposite hand
« on: November 11, 2011, 09:18:09 AM »
Does placing the weight of the ball in the opposite hand on the approach (before you take your first step) make a difference for your swing?  Would this help me to not turn early, or is that a completely different issue?

This set up position was helped me free up my swing completely. I put all the weight on my left hand (righty) and disengage when I take my second step in my 5 step approach. Accuracy has greatly improved from this adjustment and consistency as well.

Turning early was an issue for me as well...

Keeping my hand inside the ball throughout my swing and elbow close to my body helped keeping me from turning too early.

You want more revs, better ball motion, and Getting leverage at release, try his tip (back up drill). I worked on this all summer and I didn't intend to get more hand on the ball, it just happened.... Hope this works for you...

As stated before, the main goal of keeping the weight of the ball in the off hand in the stance is to aid in keeping the bowling arm and hand free of tension. Excessive muscle and grip pressure leads to poor shot making and an inability to repeat shots effectively.

I'll have to give this a try to see if the reduced tension will help.

I personally have tried this with little success... Its just a feel thing I guess you could say. If it dont feel right then dont keep doing it. I may have one of the free"ist armswings in the game but its all about gravity doing the work and not necessarily just taking muscle out of play at the beginning.

Im not saying try it, Im just saying it works for some and dont for some. You see some players drift 15 boards in their approach and Im thinking WTF. But they do it the same, and it works for them!

Just on a side not, I just recently moved up from 15lb. to 16lb. and that has fixed me turning the ball early, etc. I think the extra pound has made me really wait on the ball in my backswing! Not many people though will agree with what I said, but that helped me. john
